Into the Campaign

    The story starts with a group of people gathered around a table, preparing to play Dungeons and Dragons (or some other, similar RPG). Their characters have been written down on some cool-looking sheets of paper that the DM found somewhere, they have their dice, they have their sugary snack food.

    The DM starts to speak. "In the realm of Agathor-"... the world, for all of them, fades to black.

    The players wake up possessing the bodies of their characters. The DM then contacts then mentally, and explains that he has no idea how it happened, but it looks like they're now in his game world. There should be a way out - he gave the BBEG a powerful planar portal, so if they can just defeat it, they can get out. Stat up, save the world, go home. Simple, right?

    Only problem is, the DM was using a world he'd come up with a few months ago, for an ERP server. And while he'd removed the sexual elements from the starting village and its nearby dungeon, he hadn't quite gotten around to stripping it out of the rest of the world...

    Any thoughts on this as a set-up for a CHYOA story?

    That sounds rather intriguing. I'd rather enjoy watching the party come to terms with the idea that they were actually in the game, and start figuring out just how the hell they were supposed to get out of the mess they're in. Plenty of potential for different fetishes, different baddies, and a rather kinky journey to the end!

    I'd be willing to help get this off the ground, though I must note I'm rather busy right now (finally restarted some of the story threads I lost inspiration on a year ago, and I'm in two D&D campaigns right now). If you want a sounding board, or an extra author, or what have you, just let me know.

    One possible idea could be that one of the players has a crush on another.

    I've got some questions to ask the forum, and I'd be happy if you'd help me answer them.

    For a start - what kind of regions might this world have?

    Outside of the usual suspects (Humans, Elves, Orcs, etc.) I'd honestly like to see some of the monster races actually have territory, laws, etc. of their own. For example, out of D&D 3.5's Monster Manual III, there's Skullcrusher Ogres that actually possess a normal level of intelligence, on par with your average Human, Elf, what-have-you. They're still very much Ogres in that they love smashing and crushing their foes in battle, but they have enough intelligence to justify them forming a larger society, versus just being roving warbands or wandering mobs to generate XP. Having actual societies of races such as these would add a much-needed variety to the usual fantasy world dichotomy. It also affords an opportunity to play with different societal laws than what you'd normally expect from your traditional races and kingdoms, plus scratches the monster guy/girl itch that draws people into these fantasy stories. I'll have to poke through my copies of the Monster Manuals and see if I can find any particular races that might fit the bill.

    Fantasy worlds also afford a lot of different biome options, more than just the usual forests, mountains, swamps, etc. that populate most stories out there. For instance, I could easily see a region where there's been a massive influx and buildup of mana over the centuries, and the world around it has been shaped by it. Giant monolithic crystals infused with mana sprout from the ground, surrounded by trees that are visibly imbued with mana, giving the world a kind of surreal, purplish-blue glow, day or night. Such a place would probably be occupied by a race or group of rather strong spellcasters, who draw power from the surrounding area, and would also be a rather sought-after place to conquer, since that much mana-infused stone and wood could easily be used by other to make much stronger magically-infused armors, weapons, and constructs. It may even serve as a good place to have some kind of high-level encounter, or for the party caster to grow their powers, though I'd imagine doing so too fast may have consequences.

    Another region that might be fun to see would be an area untouched by the industrialization of the various races, ruled loosely by druids, rangers, and their ilk, made deeply suspicious of anyone from outside their borders. It's a bit more cliche, but it does afford opportunities of its own, notably in the idea that they might not like people bringing any signs of the industrialized regions into their region. It also provides a great place to establish a fairly diverse array of the fey species, again broadening the pool of creatures that may be encountered.

    I would suggest for the DM to actually be some kind of magical creature/demon/trickster god or whatever who intentionally puts the players in this D&D world. It would make the act of the DM presenting challenges to the party more logical.

    I do agree with there not being sexual dungeons and so. I feel it would be more fun if the players treat the world like a game and fool around. A male player who had a female character could go around having sex with every male opponent and act like a total slut. A girl player with a male character could try out her dick. A nerdy player with an orc barbarian could show off his muscles to all the village girls while also impressing them with his intellect, ...

    A DM kind of represents the sum of all NPCs, so it might be an option if he isn't the omnipresent narrator but rather jumps from one NPC to another.

    He might try to explain the players what had happened but can only do so within the limits of his NPC roles. Additionally, he must follow the "force of the dice," so he will do what the NPC would do and can only reduce/increase some effects.

    This could make it more mysterious at the beginning and might also serve as a long plotline.

    So one of the first NPCs could be a beggar who mumbles away (his usual role) but also gets out some "wise sayings" like "To make out the reason of life, you have to ask the Book of Wisdom." (which is what the DM can add within the role of the NPC)
    Then, one of the players could be confused, asking why he said "reason of life" instead of "meaning of life."
    When they finally ask the beggar where they could find the Book of Wisdom, he can give them a hint about it which would lead to a journey to another NPC. (This one might have more information, but his role might not allow him to give away too much without some return service, may it be money or payment in kind.)

    Making the DM into a magical creature would be... interesting, but it would make sense.
    And (assuming the set-up isn't changed) there are sexual dungeons - the starting area has a non-sexual dungeon only because the DM removed the kinky stuff from it.
