Just curious now I've written a fair bit on this site. I use wordcount as a metric in my writing elsewhere and I'd kind of like to compare my stories here to my previous works.
Yeah, that's how I ended up having to do it. Copy/pasta the chapters into another program, and... word count. Takes a LONG time, but at least you'll have a copy for your own if you didn't do it before posting. Which made it cool to discover I'd written a 500 page novel.
Damn, that's inconvenient. Now I wish I'd been smart enough to do that as I went along. Thanks anyway!
SmutMD just guesses based on chapter depth, it doesn’t actually count words. It guesses 17,800 words for a collection I contributed to but my branch alone has over 60k words. it also weirdly doesn’t find my original story at all even searching by the full name. That story is 155k jeez lol. I have all my stuff in scrivener, so the word counts are always handy. I do wish CHYOA had word counts or, even better, showed an average per chapter count.
This. It's sometimes annoying to see a story with a hundred chapters in depth but they're all, like five sentences long.
