More Control Over Comments

Still fairly new here, but why do authors not have more control over the comment section of their stories? Blocking someone is useless, as they can still post comments you can see. Communication options between fans and authors in general seems to be pretty weak.

The actual answer is probably because the site seems to be run by a small number of people in their spare time and the time is mostly taken by "please delete my account" and story approval so there is no time for features to be changed.
In a vacuum I could see people being against it because it theoretically stifles legit criticism but honestly comments are rare enough on this site that there's really nothing to stifle. Plus at the end of the day moderation here is pretty laissez-faire so if a author doesn't want someone commenting that's their business

But ya communication between users is something that could be improved imo. I also wish like in the forums you could like comments because sometimes someone might say something I totally agree with but I feel weird posting a comment that's just like "I agree person X"

I'd suggest looking into the following suggestions and putting likes on the ones that solve the issue to your satisfaction. I definitely agree with you; I've been lucky so far but I always wonder what happens if a troll comes in and just ransacks the comments section.

    *A way to report comments.

Currently, the story owners/editors can't directly do something about comments.

If users are misbehaving in the comments, moderators can get involved and comments can be deleted if necessary. (Right now, there is no written down code of conduct, you can apply common sense.)

It is also possible to block users from comments if necessary.

My understanding is that moderation will deal with things if you ask them to, within reason. Nobody has time to analyse every single chapter and comment posted to this site, but that's not the same as being unwilling to deal with problems.

There's mostly not a lot of comment activity on CHYOA, except on those huge public stories with tens of contributors. As such, I'm not sure the presence or absence of author-controlled comment moderation would have much effect on the majority of users. It's a good idea, but in the face of the potential features in the Suggestions subforum - changing the Notable Writers section, displaying word counts, changing the order of chapters - I'm happy to wait on this one.

As for better communication between authors and readers, perhaps make a thread on your story here and link to it from your Introduction page. Unlike many other sites, CHYOA has the benefit of not requiring a second account for the forum.
