Most recent update up and down instead left to right.

Currently as stories are updated older updates move along the rows left to right before snaking back to the front of the subsequent rows before they fall off completely.

I propose instead going up and down the columns before snaking to the top of the subsequent column.

The Mobile site Only shows the first column while desktop shows two to three given the aspect ratio. This would allow the most recent updates more time to shine. It kinda sucks to not be in that first column for more than a few seconds as that is the most highly visible.

Right now, there are 3 stories that got updated within 3 minutes.
The Recently Updated Stories section gets updated every 5 minutes or sth.
Now if you have even 5 submissions at the same time, one of them doesn't even have the chance to show up on a mobile device once.

If it goes from left to right first, the story has more chances to appear in the first column.
Though the average time that the story is shown in the first column won't be much different in general.

But it will indeed make a difference depending on the updating behavior.

If a user updates his story every 30 minutes, the average time per chapter the story will be shown in the "prime positions" will be lower than the average time per chapter of a story that only gets updated once per day/week/month.
