Okay, so I've been brainstorming some fantasy settings to use in my next story, one of which I've been doing so for about five years now. However, I realize that I'm not really the best at naming fictional places. So far, I've been using Google Translate and name generators to get by. So, I'm looking for suggestions for better names or better ways of naming places. The names I have so far are: Fantasy World Populated by Nudist Lesbians: Yuvikara Gloria Dearum Fictional City of Superheroes: Los Alvarez Herolin Fantasy World of Friendly Monsters: North Futhame Mesuju Any advice is appreciated.
Real place names reflect what was motivating the founders/rulers. As examples, a number of cities in the Americas were calling back to European cities (New Orleans, New York), named for famous people (Louisville, Washington, Austin), or were given religious names (Providence, Los Angeles, San Francisco). If you really wanna world build, think about who founded the city and why.
Our capital city was named after door threshold for house that was built in the place where the city was later founded.
Nothing will ever beat the Dragon Age series setting's name of Thedas (as in, THE Dragon Age Setting) So lazy, so dumb, yet so effective.
