I'm getting awfully sick of seeing the NMI come up in CHYOA General only to have it be another request for an account deletion. I think this mass exodus would be ameliorated somewhat by forcing people to give their REASON for leaving the site, or at least give us more data to form a response. For security reasons such as stalking/cyber-bullying concernes and the like, the reasons need not be given publicly, (Just as the request does not have to be made public either), but some concrete reason MUST be given, even if only to Friedman.
I don't know. It reminds me of latest problems with famous social media portal - FB. I have read, that to delete an FB account, you need to send a scan of your ID card, to confirm that you are you. ...and how famous M. company plans on FORCING (by an update) people using tenth instalment of their system, to use their web browser. Someone actually asking to delete his/her account is a good thing (because some people just don't). Should you ask for a reason, you might actually discourage the person from notifying admins at all, about them leaving the site. I agree with the second part of what you wrote - admin should be contacted in such cases. ... If you want data, then maybe try with a general questionnaire?
There are 11 new members in the last 4 hours. Just don't call it like that... You can click "Unwatch Thread" on top of the thread, though I'm not sure if it will completely ignore new messages then. "because I have to"? And do you really believe, people would tell you the truth about that? If people have to leave, don't make it harder for them. Be sure, some of them don't want to! What about "My employer/spouse found out my nickname"? Instead of this, there should be even an option to allow people deleting their account from their profile page! (with e-mail verification)
A simple button with a pop up to verify that is what you are doing and email verification would work just fine instead of going through a thread and asking for it to be deleted. You can even have a x-amount of time once you do get the email to cancel your decision and come back.
