Been looking around the internet and I think I finally found a site that might work for running polls. It lets you keep a poll private so it can only be seen by a direct link and no need to sign up.

Wouldn't that be the same as view based polls on the site?

Isn't it possible to do this polls on the forum? (not sure if the number of options could be increased, though 10 options would be enough for the linked poll if you split it to like and dislike)

I am just playing around with different options and Ideas. I am thinking about doing a test one on the forums as well just to see how well it works. Part of the reason I put in the idea for a poll section in the suggestions is it would allow long term polls that wouldn't get buried under other post. Every method has its pros and cons. Not sure how many people will go over to the polls on a third party site. Many of the readers never even visit the forums.

Shared login could help with that issue.

Shutting down the ability to both comment and message other users on the main site would change that right fucking quick! You'd get an avalanche of people coming over here just to find out what the fuck was going on! A lot of them, now knowing the forums EXIST, would hang it out here more, and even those that didn't would come back periodically to check/send their messages.

(Agree shared log in would help though.)

There would be no sufficient forum replacement for comments, as they are related to chapters.

Alternatively, they would interact less or write more unrelated in comments.

Yes, it's true, "Quest" stories would be especially hard hit.

I must also admit this is true. However, with shared log in if messages just directed you to the forum message area, merged the two systems somehow, I think this might safely drive more users this way...

I like the current message system. I use it extensively. I like that my old messages are preserved.

I don't want my messages out in the open, forum style. If you're just talking about the directing people to the forum-related message system, I don't see the point.

Its not that hard to find, many people just aren't interested in using the forums.

Well after a week on the forum the test poll got 6 people to vote while the straw poll for the same day got 14. Both are far slower then the other methods I have tried but with strawpoll I am not limited in the number of options I can add. I can say though that the forum polls do seem to be smarter in that it could tell the answers from each other.
