I can see the following roles: "Owner" - Somebody who has access to all the administration features. "Editor" - Somebody who can publish and manage all chapters. "Author" - Somebody who can publish and manage their own chapters. Questions: What exactly can an "Editor" do? Can an "Editor" see unpublished chapters of an "Owner? If so, can he edit or even delete them? Why am i asking? I was thinking, that it would be very nice, if someone could test or proof-read your story or chapters, before you publish them publicly. Obviously one is reluctant to just trust "people on the internet" and give them unrestricted access, when one has put many days worth of time into a project. Is that something that can be achieved with the current user roles? I.e. give another person access to your story, which have not been published yet, without him or her being able to edit your work? Or is that out of the scope of the current role and permission system?
If you have a writing friend here, you could set them up as an Editor, even just for a day or two, and get the answer about unpublished chapters. (I don't know who, if anyone, beyond the chapter author, can see a chapter which is saved as a draft). I think "without him or her being able to edit your work" within the current system is something you'd have to work around in some other way, like emailing chapters or sharing documents in some other way, or having a not-really-a story that you use for collaborative editing.
An Editor can see and access unpublished chapters as Chapter answers. The story map doesn't show unpublished chapters. (A user with Role Author can't see unpublished chapters.) An Editor can edit and delete all chapters. Deleted chapters can be restored within a certain period, but if someone wants to vandalize chapters, he could empty the chapters. That is currently not possible.
Thank you for the feedback. So to sum it up: "Author": Only able to see the very first chapter, nothing else. (I assume besides his own content). "Editor": Unable to see any unpublished content in the story map (besides his own i assume?) But able to navigate through the story by clicking the follow up chapter answer links. This way, he can access any chapter, even unpublished ones. He then has full permission do edit and delete.
Yes. If the story is unpublished, he can only see the first chapter and can only add to the first chapter. Yes. If he adds to a published or unpublished chapter, this chapter will be visible in the story map. Yes.
