Ya know one type of game I missed playing that I've only do once or twice but was really fun?

    Civ builder/management games!

Games where you can build a civilization of your own from the ground up and play against other civilizations. Of course purely text based, like an RP tabletop game. Could be against other players or solo, but typically has a DM.

I use to have so much fun with the world building aspect of it, I think most readers of mine would come to find that I'm a huge nerd for world building anyways.

    Anyone else wanna comment?

These games are more suited to video games than PBP, there's just too much to keep track of...

It's better suited for smaller groups or solo play. I once did a game where, including me, there were five players and the DM. He had a rather nice set up with making individuals chatrooms and so on. Went on for awhile before people jsut started to drop off due to losing interest.

Besides, way more customization with PBP than you can get in a video game. Most video games are just bleh with it, while some others can get pretty detailed but they can only do so much

I did one of these at one point, it was kinda fun for a while but I got into it too late, and didn't have time to really build it up...

Yeah, that's a problem with civ builders. Typically whenever you get into one later on, you're better off being like...I dunno, foreign invaders that get some handicapped time, or some sort of rebel group. Can't really form a whole new civilization from the ground and work your way up

This is why I'm in favor of avoiding this game outside a video game system, with the video game you either start at the same time or people don't join...

I just think it's better to have a no late gamer policy. Once you're locked in with your roster, you just power through it until the game is done somehow someway.
