Hey guys, I was wondering what's your feeling about reusing concepts, situations, phrases, etc... within a single story. I'll try to explain myself better... More specifically, I happen to often find myself in the position of writing two different branches of a story. In these two branches, some details may differ, some events may happen or not, or happen in a different order, but since the characters are the same, the way they think, what gets them off, and even their 'development' is more or less the same too. This leads me to use the same periphrasis and adjectives, especially during sex scenes. Both for their thoughts and feelings, and also for the bodily descriptions (well, the characters' bodies would the same anyway...) and physical reactions. Yet it's not like I copy-paste from another chapter, which would at least save me some time, hell no, I do all the... uh, whatchamacalitt? ... the creative process reaching two outcomes that sometimes feels just too damn samey. I'm not even sure if it is all that bad, still, I wonder if I'm doing this wrong. I get it that probably, once one has put enough experience under the belt as an erotic writer (a term which I use loosely here) you will find yourself having used all the possible combinations of words to describe the act of a penis entering a vagina(or whatever..) and the bodily reactions ensuing. Maybe I'm just unimaginative, I don't know. So, any thoughts about this? Does anyone feel this way sometimes?
If I find myself in that situation, I'd try to focus on whatever makes the sex scene unique. There must be some sort of difference between the two branches, or you would have linked them by now, so I would highlight that difference. If there really is nothing special about the scene, then I would add or change something to make it so - after all, a scene with a generic or repeated premise is already flawed, regardless of how it's written.
