I just received a message from a reader asking if there was a way they could fix typos. Obviously for safety reasons it's a good thing that any random person cannot edit a chapter to fix those issues, but I got me thinking. Perhaps it would be good to add a feature to report a typo to the story owner, editor, or chapter writer(or all three if relevant) along with a suggested fix. I see comments all the time on other stories of people reporting typos, but if it's something like the writer put "fo" instead of "of" (or "uv" which was literally how I spelled it when i was six). It's not really worth commenting on, but it's something that the writer or story owner should probably be aware of anyway for quality control.
I am pleased with the comment system as it stands when it comes to these reports. They give the writer better insight and more comments which every author could use. If it ain't broken don't fix it!
I've had some readers message me to point out typo's, plot holes, and logical fallacies before. I don't think there needs to be a separate feature for it.
What if a feature is added that while a chapter is currently being written or edited words that are misspelled are detected and underlined or highlighted along with other grammar errors so they are pointed out to the writer. I had seen a feature like this on school computers when writing essays and wonder if something similar could be used here. Seeing typos while reading is is a peeve of mine and makes me read my chapters back to find any to fix.
Authors could use the browser plugin Grammarly to achieve that. Creating an own version of Grammarly would be a huge task without advantages. It seems that Grammarly is also working on a website plugin, so that might be an option.
Yes, Grammarly has been a huge help. It isn't perfect but I only use the free version myself and it catches a bunch of things for me.
