So, because I'm just that stupid, I decided to finally watch Sailor Moon... And, it's BAD, very bad. But you know, there's something there, and like a lot of the things that inspire my story ideas, I said... "I COULD WRITE BETTER THAN THIS...!" and then I thought "but I don't want to just rewrite Sailor Moon..." So I stewed about it for a few hours and had an idea: what if I Dont write Sailor Moon, but an alternate reality where it's not the planets that empower the sailor scouts, but the Earth itself? Basicaly each main part of the earth, each distinct techtonic plate, creates two sailor-scout type people to protect its people from monsters from beyond time and space: one female, and one male... Sound like a premise people would want to explore with me? Any questions, comments, or concerns?
This idea just won't leave me alone! I've had several new developments on it. Ok, for starters, there are three tiers of "Avatars": 'Tectonic', who are chosen to begin the journey by mystically empowered creatures known as "Magma Touched", then, after at least a year's service and slaying at least ten "Diaboliques" they can ascend to 'Elemental' status. It used to be that Elemental tier was kind of a choke point because while there were about 54 Techtonic Avatars there could only be around four to five elemental avatars of each gender at a time: then the periodic table of the elements was developed, and the number of Elemental avatars that could exist at any given time exploded, (competition for the coveted, "elemental states" is still fierce, however,) above the Elemental Avatars are the 'Conceptual Avatars', who are basically Kame from Japanese mythology. To ascend to the status of Conceptual Avatar you have to have been an Elemental avatar for at least ten years and slain at least a hundred Diaboliques. There are many Conceptual Avatars who have been killing Diaboliques for centuries, accumulated thousands upon thousands of kills, and still not ascended to any higher state. However there is a persistent rumor that there's a fourth level of ascension: "Primal Avatar" status. No two texts on the subject agree on what you have to do to reach Primal Avatar, or what happens if you do, but many seek this state as a way to end the long war...
Now some of you might be wondering what a Diabolique is? Diaboliques are the manifestations of snarls in the skein of fate: whenever an event occurs that fate says shouldn't have happened, a Diabolique is created. As an example, that whole 'Final Destination' series of movies? Not only would the cast have gotten hundreds of people killed while they ran around repeatedly cheating death, they would have created a veritable army of corpse-puppeteer Diaboliques. (One of the more common phenotypes of Diabolique: created when someone should have died, and DOESN'T...) The most dangerous kind of Diabolique, however, are those formed from a repeated snarling and RE-Snarling of the Skein. The worst natural example of this ever seen was Monsur Punch, who was created when a mother who had been forced to give up her true love, and married a man who should have died three times over, gave birth to a child that should have strangled on its own cord but the midwife, who shouldn't have been there for five separate reasons of her own, cut the cord and saved both the baby and mother. Monsur Punch was an EVIL S.O.B., ending up murdering over a hundred people, but was ultimately defeated by Saint Nicholas. However, this is NOTHING compared to what happens when several different Diabolique are consumed by a stronger one.
