I often like to listen to music while I cough read and write. Anyway, when I talk to people about hypnosis, I often say that I like it when it can be used to put people into a situation in their mind, but not really tell them what to do directly. The example I always use is that you wouldn't be able to just tell them to strip, but you could tell them that it's very hot, and maybe get them to do it that way, and this time, I thought of the lyrics "It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes."

This gave me the idea of hypnosis via songs. I haven't thought of any details yet, but my real problem is I'm not sure how many songs there are that would really work well, if I don't want to just make them up.

There are probably enough songs for different occasions, though I'm not sure how easy it would be to give the reader the right idea about a certain song.
Then, the taste of music varies from reader to reader and people who aren't in the specific genre may not recognize the song, except you use something like "Knocking on heaven's door".
That said, if the connection between lyrics and melody doesn't matter, you could also use your own, tailor-made lyrics and describe the melody/sound.

So you idea is basically that the 'victim' of the hypnosis would do exactly what the lyrics of the songs say?

If i were you i would work on reversal.
First look around for a few songs that seem fit, maybe using some key words on a search engine.
When you think you have enough to build a linear plotline
    ex.
-1° something non sexual or only incidentally so, to learn about your power
-2° something more daring, to see how much you can push people (your "It's getting hot.." fits perfectly)
-3° something with explicit lyrics, to flare up a sex scene

and then let them inspire you to build the scenes.

I bet you could find a lot of material for 1&2, mabye quite a few 2 and 1/2, not sure how may full 3s are out there though.
Also i'd porbably prefer to work with very well known songs, it gives me the idea that more people could recollect with their own memories.

Yeah, I'd like to find songs like that for sure. Even if they're not well known exactly, if it's something that exists then the reader could potentially listen to it. I haven't been able to find a lot of good songs for that though.

I've thought about it more, and I think it'd be funny to have this be a hypnosis story without a hypnotist, exactly, so maybe a cd store that's low on customers would try to get more customers by, say, adding binaural beats in the background, based on some study they read about. Maybe not that, but that was my idea.
