This idea sounds intresting to me. It sounds similar to Eve Online, I didn't play, but like listen stories about this mno. I like concept with colone crew, it make it more simple than common crew. I think for the beginner as the capitan two officers are maximum to take. I'm in.
Well, haven't had any new games that happened in a while so I might try, but I struggle to understand what this really involves. Are characters supposed to be all humans? Are the player characters captains of their own fleet or the same crew? Is this meant to a voting thing like quest games? I remember those being tried before and kind of falling a little flat because of the lack of interactivity. The format doesn't really click well outside of on-site stories as easily.
Glad to hear it! Welcome aboard! Okay, let's go point after point. Are characters supposed to be all humans? Not really. You can choose/create any race you like... within a reason. Preferably, I would leave clones as humans or close humans - at least at the start of the game Is this meant to a voting thing like quest games? No - it basically means that the only captains in the fleet, will be the players taking part in the game (at least in the beginning). They will create a fleet. There will be no admiral, so the choice of the next curse for the entire fleet (it's general-purpose, politics, alliances, strategy, enemies, etc.) will need to be decided between players. Kind of like the Roman senate - just smaller. A war council would be a good example as well. Also, while players can act as a group, inactivity of one, will not impact the whole of the fleet much. Active players will be able to team up, or play solo. Those who will be inactive for a longer time, will be replaced by their first officers (NPCs) - either until they return, or permanently.
I see. I'll probably try, though my mood isn't as in it these days with these circumstances to feel like things can just be getting back to normal, but honestly, I welcome anything that means I won't have to think about it too hard right now. Have to see more of it before I know where I'd want to go or do with things really.
So as I understand it, all players would be captains of their individual ships; free to sail their ships to any destination or undertake any mission that they desired as is their right by-way-of being captains. Their (supposed) goal to establish and expand the FEDERATION's power in a new area. How they do this is up to the individual captains. Is the player an adventurer and explorer looking to seek out new life and new civilizations? Is the player a diplomat or merchant looking to establish trade routes or make mining claims on mineral rich worlds? Or is the player a soldier looking to expand the FEDERATION militarily by conquering new worlds? They players themselves would make up the captains of the 7th Exploration fleet. Eventually gaining command of more than one ship and becoming admirals. I could be down for this.
Basically, yes - each player will be able to take the missions of their liking, and following the way they choose. Your understanding is correct.
I expect then that players would start out as LIEUTENANT COMMANDERS? (As according to naval tradition anyone who commands a ship is granted the title of Captain regardless of whether-or-not they hold the actual RANK.) Assigned to CORVETTE class ships? Players would then move up to FRIGATES and/or DESTROYERS when they become COMMANDERS and eventually CRUISERS when they become CAPTAINS? With DREADNOUGHTS and/or CARRIERS being reserved for FLEET CAPTAINS/COMMODORES/ADMIRALS? Could players who start out as more experienced officers with decades of service under their belt start as higher RANKS then and have access to better ships? Or maybe have it cost points in player creation to have a higher rank (and therefore better ship)?
Hah... did not go into ranks in soo much detail. My basic concept was, that as players start with commanding their own ships, they would be starting as captains. After that, once they would gain more ships, they would be promoted to commodore and admiral... Yes, the start would be with small ships, slowly gaining more powerful ships. More experienced officers... well, they could start with better ships (not higher rank) but that would come at cost of additional character flaws, to balance the gameplay.
Added corvettes and shuttles - anyone will be going for a destroyer? Or does anyone want to play with a different specialized corvette?
I'm going for a science captain, so a science specialised corvette probably. 'Raven class' is in there twice btw, I think. Can the clone crew be split male:famale? Don't really want a harem ship (shocking I know).
