Apologies in advance if this is posted in the wrong forum section.

Can I please have some examples of stories that use the "game mode" in the sidebar well?
I noticed it on a couple of stories I've read parts of but so far I haven't actually encountered a story where it actually does anything.

    Thanks in advance.

    My recommendations would be:

Becoming a Warrior: A lot of the game stuff here is hidden, but things like money, etc. will be apparent. More importantly, you'll see plenty of options and hidden text depending on choices you made (like who you met, what weapons your character trains with, etc.)

If you want a real gamey game one, this is as gamey as they get. It's also pretty funny! Paladin Simulator.

I also have a bunch of game style ones in my signature if you want to try them. Kami Kurabe and Goodbye Girls have a lot of game features. Lust for the Golden Witch has some too (it's much simpler though).

I hope you'll find game style stories you enjoy. I love playing and making them. :)

Ah, yes, proper Game Mode stories - my favourite kind of story on CHYOA.

MidbossMan has already taken half of my recommendations, but I'll doubly echo the awesome Becoming a Warrior! and also mention Goodbye Girls again, which is deserving of far more attention than it currently gets. Seriously, the level of thought that has gone into both of these is amazing. Plus, they're both loaded with content and still receiving updates.

I'll also recommend a new story, The Necromancer and the Wandering Princess. It's only a few days old so it's difficult to gauge how much it's going to end up using Game Mode, but between the concept and the writing quality, it seems extremely promising. I can at least assure you it's not one of those "dump five chapters and run" stories - it's being updated as I write these words.

Whispers of Madness is a dungeon crawl style story that is also highly underappreciated. I haven't read too far deep, but what I have is great.

Speaking of dungeon crawls, I suppose I'll mention my own Darkest Challenges. I'm not sure it's the same quality as the other stories mentioned here, since it's not really story-driven, but if you've ever played DnD and thought about how great it would be to fuck all the (humanoid) monsters, there you go. It's not too far from being finished, which I'm excited about.

Sort of a necro, but just stumbled on this thread (and thanks for the shoutout, MidbossMan!)

Another group of "game mode" stories are the ones that have a more dating sim feel to them: they take place in realistic settings, feature ensemble casts (of women to fuck), and often have a somewhat convoluted narrative flow. Prominent examples of these include Wet Hot Summer and The New Kid, with my own The Freshman 15 somewhat inspired by them.
