Story Etiquette

Hello Authors, I'm new to the site and I have a question about the etiquette of changing something about a story when you start a new path. Specifically I'm looking at starting a new path off a story prompt, but the story uses 2nd person perspective, and I would be more comfortable writing in 3rd person. Would this be seen as some sort of faux pas? Or something to not even worry about.
If it makes a difference the original story author hasn't been on in a few years, so would probably never even see my branch.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm very much a solo writer, so take this with a grain of salt... but if I were an original author, and someone like you came in and made that kind of transition, I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

If the author were active, I think the polite protocol would be the ask them. But since they haven't been online in years, I think it would be fine to switch POVs for your branch, especially if you're not continuing an existing branch where the POV change might seem jarring. Personally, I'd put some sort of "Author's Note:" at the top, explaining the change, but that's up to you.

Also, half the time, people get the POV wrong for their story, or they just randomly pick one I guess? Hard to know. So, I don't think anyone would fault you for the switch. They might just silently judge you for not knowing what "2nd POV" means. Haha.
