One of the things I do miss from the old CYOO was the By Freshness option at the Home section, I found that it really let you know what was being read and favoured by the readers. Anyhow, it really helped me to discover a heck of alot of stories I might have never come across . Anyway, just thought. Cheers! Jonray
CHYOA has that. It just calls it "Recently Updated" instead. Otherwise, it's exactly the same The tab for it is under "DISCOVER & EXPLORE" or this arrangement can be made manually with an advanced search. There's also a list of the six most recently updated stories on the right side of the page.
Hi Kaitou 1412, I don't think you get what I mean, on the old CHYOO the By Freshness reacted to people "rating" a story thread, so when people enjoyed and rated a story/story thread it seemed to place that story to the top of the Freshness list, not necessary the most updated story. I think it was faulty and was meant to function as the "Recently Updated" in the new CHYOA. Anyhow, thanks for replying Cheers Jonray
Ah, that sort of "freshness." Truthfully, most users disliked the list being updated by ratings and comments on CHYOO, which is probably why Friedman programmed CHYOA to not register new ratings and comments as an update. In this case, I think highest overall ratings, regardless of time, would be more useful than a list of recent ratings. CHYOA may not have a master list, but the stories and threads can still be sorted this way in an advanced search.
Such a pity, I thought it might have been fun to have a "what's trending now"/"what's rating now" sorta story list option like the old CHYOO, but anyway thanks again for replying Kaitou 1412. Please delete or close off this thread Cheers Jonray
I think a page with all the recent activity on Chyoa whether it is new stories/threads, new bookmarks, new ratings, etc. is a good suggestion and would add a stronger social component to the site. When I was developing Chyoa I saw everything primarily through a readers perspective. Simply because I haven't been an author on the old site and had limited knowledge of how it was handled there. I think you can see that in the current structure. Since then I've learned that the core of the site are its writers. They are the driving force or in other words they are building the content (should be obvious but the focus was on providing a good reading experience). Thanks to this great community I have now a better picture of the requirements and I'll keep those in mind when improving the site in the future.
Might I suggest that freshness based on actual story content is more valuable than freshness based on commenting on rating? At least from the perspective of users who have not participated in that story--in which case, their My Threads page would be more pertinent for such news. I suppose the same could be said for follow-up comments, although I feel like comments work best if they don't become distracted by conversation, and focus on addressing the story thread.
