Is there any progress on a messaging system in the main site, and not just part of the forums? There is an author contributing to my story that is violating the directions about 30% of the time, so I feel like I can't approve the stories. I've been leaving comments, but he clearly has not read them. I don't know how to more directly contact him, and it is starting to really bother me. I like his work, but I can't approve things as is. I'm probably going to have to lock the story just so they'll stop wasting their time if I can't get him to stop contributing or editing his sections to meet directions.
If we linked user accounts to their forums accounts, it'd feel like less of a gap to use the forum messaging system for the same functionality. Otherwise it feels like the site would be too bloated with two separate messaging systems. Of course, this might not work if the user is banned from the forums.
I'd prefer an editor comment system built into the story site, alongside the proposed contribution. What I'm used to from Chyoo1/2, and doesn't require a dispatch to a separate page.
I think this problem is rooted more in the fact that there's no means of being notified of a comment on a thread. As it stands, we have to specifically choose to view our threads just to learn if someone says something, or hope comments were dropped off with a rating. While your method may not have been ideal with the forum present, I think this demonstrates we need to be notified of comments separately. I don't object to being forced to open the thread page to view them, but I'm more inclined to look if there's a notification under Manage Stories.
I agree with the above suggestions. I definitely think we should be able to leave private messages to other users. If the reason to not allow this is due to site space limitations, then how about pm's just going straight to the other user's email account? It doesn't have to reveal the e-mail account to the person writing, but would still provide the writer direct access to the person they are trying to communicate with. If the person being contacted wishes to respond, they could do so.
