This is the main In Character thread for The Mockumentary Game. More specialized threads will be created if required, but for now, none are.

Now some of you may be wondering, "Why have an IC thread for a game like The Mockumentary Game? After all, things do move much too fast for meaningful interpersonal interactions."

Well, in answer, this is not meant for direct PC/PC IC but for things like IC correspondence, with each character writing a letter and mailing it to the other, thus taking a few weeks to arrive and then the return letter to come back again and so on turn-and-turn-about.

In that vein here is the set of letters that our first player, @GenericEditor168 's character finds waiting for them when they arrive at their brand new plantation on their first day.

From: The Office and Personage of the Governor Of [Skyfandrious]who rules here in the name of Her Imperial Majesty The Ebon Empress: Nemo of Utopia
To: Whom-so-ever shall be the recipient of this newly formatted Plantation.

Greetings to you, loyal subject of the Ebony Empire.

I hope that this missive finds you well and that your journey through the Maelstrom and Myst to reach your new home was not TOO rough and nightmarish. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Nemo Of Utopia, Governor of Skyfandrious and I bid you welcome to our neck of the universe. I am not only Governor here, thus being both Enforcer of Justice and Keeper of the Slave Market, but also the local representative of the Interstellar Banking Guild, meaning that I essentially run the local economy. Never fear though, I do so in an attempt to keep prices moderate, (not high enough to cripple trade nor low enough to bankrupt producers,) and our citizenry fed and clothed.

You will find your plantation stocked with the standard starting assortment of items, dogs for hunting, sheep for milk and wool, vegetables for eating, seed for planting, tools to clear the land and plow it, and so forth. What you will not find it having are any slaves. Expanding your staff of 'Speaking Tools' will be key to your prospering over the long term. Auctions are held sporadically, once a quarter or so, and you can purchase up to three slaves during each auction. Note that you can bid on as many slaves as you wish, but you can only be the front-runner for three auctions at a time.
In specific, the following slaves are to be auctioned this season: LIST OF BIDDING LOTS

Your goal here as a plantation owner is or should be to accomplish the following:
    1: Survive.
2: Grow Crops And Livestock For Sale.
    3: Turn A Profit.
    4: Aquire More Slaves?
    5: Expand The Plantation?
    6: Marry: (Just Once.)
    7: Have Children.
    8: Upgrade Your Greathouse.
    9: Return To Step 1.
If you have any questions about this sequence, be sure to write a letter in reply to this missive asking for any explanations you might need.

In any case, I bid you welcome to our fine world and hope that you will have many great years here running your plantation.

    Sincerely,

    Gov. Nemo of Utopia.

From: Mr. & Mrs. Washington of "Vernal Mountain" Plantation
To: Our New Neighbor at 1 Builtshire Road

Greetings Sir, Madam, Vis, or Klepht:

This is Mistress Winifred Hortons Washington, writing on behalf of herself and her husband Master Greggory James Washington both of the "Vernal Mountain" plantation.

We have heard the good news that our world is to receive a fresh plantation owner, and our relations further inform us that you appear to be a Dragon. We would make ourselves known to you for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that we wish to avoid unnecessary unpleasantness between our plantations. Simply put, our plantation is in the business of growing food crops and livestock for the local markets: if you wish to be profitable and successful as a plantation owner you will avoid acting as our rival and instead focus on growing something like cotton, hemp, and flax for cloth, or sending missives back and forth to diversify our crop/livestock types so that we don't compete in what forms of vegetables and other staples we sell.

Our plantation is quite large and ready to expand even more this spring, we intend to have our slaves clear additional land and improve the remainder from Scrub Forest to proper Woodlot, which would make us the most advanced plantation on this world. I say this not to brag but as a reminder of your position here, you are new and untried, and we can help you in many ways. It would be wiser to accept the help we offer than to chose the arrogant and standoffish stance simply because of racial differences, no?

In a related note, we are hosting a small dinner party one month from the day of this writing, which everyone who is anyone around here will be attending. I will be dishing up my best recipes and my husband will have brought in his finest game, so expect a true feast! We hope you will be there to meet with The Governor and the Widow Klegshor.

In closing, again, welcome to Skyfandrious, and we hope we can get along well with you and your plantation!

    Respectfully Yours,

Mistress Winifred Hortons Washington and Master Greggory James Washington.

From: The Widow Klegshor of Cold Comfort Farms.
To: My New Neighbor at 1 Builtshire Road.

    Respected Neighbor,

Please allow me to make myself known unto to you, I am Mrs. Shegalak Klegshor, lately bereaved of my late husband Mr. Rakashnak Klegshor, when he died in a hunting accident.

I have many close relations in the core worlds with whom I remain in contact, and they inform me that, like myself, you are a Neuter. I know my title of 'Mrs.' might throw you off but it is strictly a legal matter, as my husband arranged to have my legal gender changed upon our marriage which would have been followed up on by a "Full-Body-Morph" potion as soon as we could afford it.

Like yourself, I am relatively new to this world, I arrived alongside my husband last winter and we bought one slave to help us, Patchouli Alonzo, a male human. Now I find myself running a plantation all alone, even as I grieve my beloved, and I am shaken.

Even so, I have good plans for Alonzo and I for the next few weeks, clearing and plowing land then planting it with carrots and onions.

In any case, I wish to bid you welcome and be on good terms with you, we both are newcomers on a world where the only other plantation is well established and its owners like to throw their weight around.

Speaking of which, will you be attending their little "dinner party" at the end of March? If not, I've half a mind to not go as well and visit you instead...

    RSVP:
    The Widow Klegshor.

    You will note

Each letter from a fellow plantation owner gave a brief nod to what they and their slaves would be doing for the next turn or more, this is because doing so provides what is known as a "Description Die" to the character or slave in question, bettering their chances of success.
