I've been "Traipsing Through The Trash" as it were, and I am thinking of doing a new story, but I cant do it alone.

    The basic premise is this:

Kimama, Kekepania, Kilala, Kaja, Kelly, And Kunto are a very multi ethnic group of colonists headed out into the depths of space as part of a colony mission to terraform and settle a new planet.

Along the way the ship is struck by a meteor.

They awaken on the planet with all other crew members dead but one.

At that point the story makes it's first branching: either the Six K's find that there is a single other man left alive on board in which case it turns into a Harem Anime done RIGHT, or the view point character is a lesbian medical technician, (who had her ovaries harvested for eggs,) and they start using in vitro fertilization to build up a colony.

Anyone think this would be worth pursuing?

The all K names might be a little daunting to new writers to keep straight who is who.

If you want to keep with a clever naming scheme...Perhaps "The ABC's: Mothers to us all". Then have each female protagonist have appropriate name starting from A and ending with F?

I couldn't give you specific names though.

It all depends on from where they came from. You said they where multi-ethical so the first question is are they from the same country or different ones or maybe even different planets in the sol system. The major three would probably be a Russian, a Chinese, and an American with the other three probably from the European commonwealth or from japan. Unless something has changed between now and the time period you story is set in.

Well, glad you asked: Kunto is African in origin, Kaja's German, Kelly's is Irish, and the other three are Japanese, Native American, and Hawaiian.

Have you seen Neal Stephenson's SEVENEVES? The premise is similar, with seven women surviving a grand cataclysm and having to use parthenogenesis to repopulate a space colony and founding distinct human races named for the seven mothers, each race having genetic tweaks for advantages in survival. Eventually they bring back men and resettle a devastated Earth.

No, I've never read that series, where can I find it?

    Not in aboriginal Australian literature.

True, I did miss that ethnic group, didn't I?

Sometimes you need to be PC, sometimes you just want to tell a story you know...

Perfection is the enemy of good.

True: OOOOH! I could have them get into the capsules with a seventh woman, the Aussi, and she doesn't make it! Brings the desperation of their situation home nicely, doesn't it?

    Yes, actually.

Though one does still wonder if your "African" can cover North Africa, Persia, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa East-and-West, as well as the entire Indian subcontinent...

Then there's continental Asia - Mongolia, native Russia-Asia, China, Korean peninsula, Vietnam/Laos/etc peninsula

Philippines, Innuit/arctic/native Scandinavia etc., Native South America...

    And that's just a start.

    ...

But make the story you like. Can't include everyone.

Um. Without a lot of deaths.

    We are getting *really* desperate.

But, we have redheads with freckles. We will be alright.

    (Giving you a hard time)

Yup, the basic underpinning of the character's 'racial' selection is they're the ones I personally find hottest: the advice I consistently receive around here is to write what interests me and if others don't like it: fuck em.

    Yeah, that's good advice.

The desire to give you a hard time about it is almost as tempting as good advice.

On a completely unrelated note, about 1/6th the worlds population is Indian.

If you're going to throw a reference, in practical numerical terms, you're probably better off killing that poor woman than the Aussie if you want a sense of desperation.
