Lana: A divorcée, a Black woman with a side-buzzed naturally curly hairstyle, who left her conventional marriage-and-kids life and now lives happily with a younger female partner, Terry Lou, who is off at a women's music festival, probably someplace rustic and uncomfortable and without umbrella drinks. Waxed smooth. On Terry Lou: "She looked nice in that suit at the reunion," Laura said. "Is that the way she usually dresses up?" "Uh-huh. Dresses aren't really her thing. Jeans and a jacket. Finally got her to let go of her flannel shirts and step it up a little," Lana said. Two friends still on their way: "I missed you all so much," Meg said. "When are Diane and Rachel coming?" "Afternoon," Lana said. "What do we do till then?" Meg asked. Diane and Rachel complete the fivesome, and haven't been described beyond their names. "Would you do my legs too, Meg?" Laura asked. "Like you used to?" "Sure, roomie," Meg said. Meg and Laura had met as dormitory roommates before connecting with Lana, Diane, and Rachel.
