    Hey there!

So I tried my hand at this and posted up a branch of the story. Admittedly it would have been a few chapters in before any sex started up, but I felt a slower burn would have worked well for the story.

Due to the fact I didn't work with Maxwell on it very well however the branch conflicted mightily with the established story he was going for. I intend to come back to this one day, once I've rewritten things and adjusted for the information he provided. Until then however Maxwell asked me if I'd post what I'd written; For the time being I'm only going to post the opening chapter as it's the one with the least conflicts.

I switched to Second person here, for some reason, so no judgements on that. It's also far too emotional and longwinded for a porn story, so if you're a tl;dr type of person you can safely skip it.

As you stand there, blood boiling in your veins, a rather uncomfortable thought finally pushes it's way out of your ass and right into your head. A thought that until this second seemed so foreign as to be someone else's put right in your damn head. Where was your self respect you fucking cloth-eared nonce? Yeah, you'd stopped short of shagging your drunk best friend and you'd done so before. You'd given Dawn every chance when she was sober to square herself up and take you down gentle or give it a shot and you had done the right thing every time. Maybe not the macho, fuck the girl and leave before she wakes up bullshit that other lads prided themselves on but you were a good man.

Too good. Yeah, you'd wiped a little shame on Dawn's knickers and you let yourself get taken off by her. Let yourself slip into some demure mindset that she was all there was and all you had, let yourself fancy another man going to town on Dawn. Now that you were this fired up to get yourself kicked in the teeth by two men for her though, the fire in your belly went in a different direction entirely. You weren't gonna be the wimp, nor the fool today. Not today.

Love her as you might, tonight has proven something you always knew deep down. Dawn wasn't gonna give you the chance, not really. She had made it clear that you went this far and no further. No amount of hanging around or getting yourself into a brawl for her honor was going to change- hang on, what fucking honor? There was the macho shit. Dawn could make her own fucking decisions. She didn't belong to you...and nor you her.

You felt yourself cool in that thought and you reached into your pocket, grabbing up your cheap cell. You'd had about enough but you weren't going to let Dawn get throttled by these two right now. They could have at her when you'd made a point, when you weren't in the same house and still trying to bite back some repressed chivalry bullshit. You started dialing and stepped down the stairs, both men looking up with half-cocked grins.

"Hang on, she invite a third...? Or you the friend she was fixing to end up with tonight." Jake asked first, confidence and swagger in his voice. Ryan stood first though, arms crossed. He might see what Jake didn't, the ice in your veins. You opened your mouth and felt yourself speaking like someone else was plucking the cords. "I'm just the guy telling you two to piss off and try again another night, less you want the cops round." You retort, and Jake is halfway up before you're down another step.

"Scuse me kid? You fucking daft? We ain't done nothing and the lady invited us. No fucking harm 'ere. "

"She's drunk, and you two are playing at taking advantage of her. Between me and the wank bait you just took with your phone, cops will at least take you home for the night. That's assuming either of you ain't got priors or warrants and assuming you ain't got a wife or girl at home who'll be wondering where you been. You put your drinks down and get out now and I'll wait till you're gone to call them. "

Jake sizes you up. You've seen the look before, predators sizing up prey or some shit like that. Ryan is halfway convinced already though, the nervous look on his face saying a confrontation with the cops is not in his favor. A quick glance to Jake confirms that he's not having it either. Ryan moves just as Jake snorts, tossing his drink onto Dawn's floor. "Ain't worth it then. She'll call us tomorrow or the next time she needs a real man and you'll have to content yourself with a nice jerk. " He said, tugging Ryan by the arm as he left. You didn't put your phone away for a while, until you heard a taxi sputter in front of the house and watched from the window as the two climbed inside. Jake cast a glance back at you and you saw him shoot you a cheeky grin as he disappeared into the back seat.

When you finally put your phone away, you felt a palpable air of tension leave you only to be replaced and lit ablaze mere seconds later. "Alright boys, I'm ready for- Dan!" She started, voice sultry in the way a drunk woman swallowing her better judgement could be but the last part sounded like she'd been dunked in ice. "I thought you went...why aren't you...?" She mumbled, looking around. Her dress caught my eyes, so sultry and red...and you felt disgusted with yourself again. It must have read on your face because Dawn looked genuinely concerned now. "Where did...did you see anyone here?"

"Mmn. I know about the guys. Sent them home. Figured after a night like tonight you deserved a little peace and quiet to sleep it off. " You spoke back, turning to face her fully now. She looked confused at first, her drunken mind failing to process the thoughtfulness and honestly, selfishness of that. "You...you didn't have to do that! No right to do that. If you don't want me then I have a right to call over anyone I want!"

She was angry, but god you went from cold to hot in a minute. "You're fucking drunk! The worst kind of drunk, the wake up tomorrow wondering why it feels like two club thugs went ten rounds on you drunk, no idea you fucking called them over because you tried to get the man who's your best friend to go after you when you were halfway to passing out! The fucking older one had his cell out for the entire thing, probably would have recorded it all and you'd get to hear the whole club sniggering at you every time you went in. "

You weren't yelling, but your voice sure was hot and full of just what you were feeling. You didn't step towards her but she still stepped back, scared and upset. "I...I just wanted you to spend the night with me, Dan...So what if it took a few drinks to-"

You don't let her finish. Don't let her sink the hook in any deeper. "Because it's not you. Not the girl I fell in love with. " And her face goes a little fallen at that, hearing you say those words in a tone like yours. "You'd wake up tomorrow and at fucking best tell me it was all a mistake. At worst it'd be the end of it all, you kicking me out for taking advantage of you. " You retort, and she seems to shrink into her kitchen doorway a little. Your heart starts to bleed a little at the sight. Dawn is scared, drunk and upset. She's listening to you railroad her and she can't even argue a word of it. Because it's true, and because she's still coming down. It's been long enough you can feign a hope she's more sober but it doesn't matter.

"Tonight's the last night I go out with you Dawn." You say, and you feel the weight of those words like a hammerblow in your gut. Every part of you that's idolized her, loved her to pieces, fantasized about her, it's screaming at you and yet you know you can't stop. You have to ride the wave you're on to the end, no matter where it goes now. "The fuck does that mean? Just because I-" and you stop her again.

You turn away, lifting your phone again to dial the taxi service. It'll take the rest of your spending money for a bit to pay for a taxi but you can't wait fot a train here. Not tonight. "It means I'm done. I'm your friend, and if you want to party and drink, throw yourself at guys... That's your right. Your business. " You start, and she tries to speak up. She looks somewhat...hopeful, maybe? Who knows.

"It's my right to not watch it. Not sit there and have you look me dead in the face when you know how I feel and tell me I'm just your friend, then invite me out to watch you rub up another man's dick. Maybe if you'd said no and just moved on we'd hang out, catch a movie, whatever. "

And something inside you is on it's knees. Begging. This is all you have. Dawn is all you have. You NEED her to keep going. Have to have her. She's your future wife, your best friend, the hottest girl you know. You think about her when she's sober, how smart and genuine she is, how great a friend. How what you're saying is wrong. It burns in your gut and you force it all down.

The truth is she's not any of those things. She's putting you on. Maybe not intentionally, maybe it's all meant harmless, but you see it now.

You're the backup. The one she can feel good with until she sees another man at the club who catches her eye, the one who catches her when she's down just so she can get up. You've heard the term friend zone a million times and it's bullshit. Guys with no spines blaming women who aren't interested. Thing was, this wasn't that. She was using you. For emotional support, to see your reactions, watch you rise and fall for her every word.

Nothing she's done has made you think she gives a crap about how you really feel as a person when it comes to this. Maybe it's selfish but you know it's also right. You've been there for every stumble and fall, and she'd wound you so tight around her finger that even doing what was right made you doubt yourself. You can't do this anymore.

You stop there. Lifting the phone to your ear as you ask for a taxi service to come round. The address falls off your tongue as Dawn steps forward, you can see her eyes wet as she takes it all in. "Wait...The trains just a bit away. You could stay and we could talk." She tries, and your heart bleeds rivers. You force it to stop, crushing it in the same ice as the rest of it. When you hang up, it's with a shake of your head.

"No. I'm not sticking around. You're drunk still, and anything I say is half liable to get washed out tomorrow. " You say, and she balks at you. Her eyes are full of hurt and anger. "You asshole! Who the fuck do you think you are? Acting like I'm some useless drunk and you're the saint! I just wanted a man. One who'd take me like I want instead of this white knight bullshit." She yells now, her voice shaking along with the rest of her and she must not have expected anything because when you turn on her now, her eyes widen and she jolts back. She's going for the sore spots because she's angry and it might've worked, might've shut you down, but tonight it's not.

"I'm not a fucking saint. And you're not a useless drunk. I don't know what you are. Half the time you're the most radiant woman I know. Half the time I would fucking crack my chest open and hand you my heart and watch as you crushed it. Half the time. The other half of the time you're dragging any guy who looks good at the club and inviting me over like a friend who gives a damn then knowing all that dumb shit you let me watch and know I'm not worth it. " You start and your voice wavers. You look away now.

She doesn't speak and you don't look back at her.

"You're gorgeous Dawn, and smart. Then you drink and act like nothing has a consequence anymore. I'm your best friend one minute and your voyeur the next. It's not right for either of us. You deserve a guy who can give you whatever it is you're looking for and I need to stop waiting for it to be me, and deal with my own shit. If I'm not the kind of 'man' you want just because I have half a brain and know us getting together drunk is the worst mistake I'd make... Then I'm not the kind of man you want. " And you reach for the doorknob. It's sure rattling a lot for such a calm night...

You're shaking. Like an addict on withdrawl. Everything you're saying feels a million miles away from you and the events of tonight play back in your head. She's wrong, you've never been the saint, you've been a coward. Clinging to her and what she represented in your life. A constant, unobtainable goal that you could hold up as the reason you never went anywhere. The reason all the rest of your life you didn't need to try. You had to wait for your missing piece, Dawn. You needed to move on...and Dawn needed to move on too.

"I'll see you around. I'm gonna go clean myself up. " You say. Then you stop yourself, looking back at her and for a moment you can see the wounds. The hurt and anger, bubbling alongside confusion and the way she chews her cheek when she's frustrated over something. The alcohol is warring with her greater emotions, and losing hard, she's closer to being herself than she was before. You want to close the door, come in from the cold and hug her. Give into the warmth of the constant, the excuse, the pit.

Instead you try to smile and it hurts to do, but you keep it going. "Goodbye Dawn. "

By the time you catch up with yourself you're at the bottom of the road, sitting in a curb. The taxi is pulling up and you stand up, nodding quietly as the taxi driver greets you and motions you in. You open the back door and look up. Dawn is staring down from her living room window with a heavy look on her face, her eyes glistening. She's gorgeous even now, makeup smeared and hand over her mouth as you climb into the taxi. When you look up again she's at the door, opening it, waiting. She wants to come after you but can't, not with what you've said.

If you go after her now you're flushing yourself down a drain you'll never come back from. You'd give yourself up to be with her. Any mistakes, any wrongdoing, you'd stick by her. Because she's the one you can't let go.

When you close the taxi door it resounds louder than it has any right to. The taxi driver looks back as you cover your face with a hand. "Where to, man?" He asks, worried look in his eyes. He's noticed before you did that you're starting to leak tears and you shake your head, giving your address without elaborating anything else.

You look back as the taxi pulls away. Dawn is halfway down her steps, holding her heels in her hand and barefoot, staring as you're driven away. You want to tell yourself she's crying but you can't. You have to keep cutting those thoughts down like weeds when they crop up.

When you turn back it's to the road this time. To your bed and your life, and the pieces you need to pick up come tomorrow. Because now you have to remember how to live a life you're not obsessing over someone else.

    A life without Dawn.

Really beautiful prose. So much detail. To have so much feeling in your writing shows you've clearly lived a similar experience. If not so extreme. Please, don't worry about being asked to redraft. Kore and I aren't tyrants. It just comes with the territory of writing. But thanks to you, I've decided to write a charcter bio which will be uploaded this week. Should make it easier to contrbute.

I appreciate your kind words as always, and I understand that it's not tyranny, it's creative control because it's your story. I made the decision to take the chapters down out of a personal distaste for having 'incomplete work'. It's why I don't like public WIPs and such, it sincerely bothers me to have writing I know isn't finalized out and visible, if that makes sense!

Can't wait to see how your story progresses and re-contribute later on.

    Hi All, [ particularly @Respites @Sidian ]

Today I posted background to the story. Thought I'd put it here too. It's a little long but worth a read if you're interested in my story. Thanks

Character Biographies. Please Read Before Contributing.

    Introduction

I have had to ask writers to rework some chapters because their work clashed with what has already been written. So, to save everyone time I have wrote some rules and background.

I'm picky because this story is based on an old muse of mine. Therefore, I'd appreciate it if all contributors take the time to read this chapter in order to not drift too far from the 'truth.' In short, the story has to be believable.

But please... don't let the above put you off contributing. I love reading all work.

    Please note:
All contributions must be 1st person [from the viewpoint of Dan]

    SETTING: UK:
    Northern England. Unspecified city.

    ~

    Characters

    NAME:
    Dan

    AGE:
    22

    OCCUPATION:
Geography student but works a weekend job in a pizzeria.

    DESCRIPTION:
Tall and slim with short brown hair. Better looking than he gives himself credit for. One of the few people who Dawn confides in. A fact Dan is super proud of. Believes himself to be the man to save Dawn.

    PERSONALITY:
Mild-mannered and patient... but his frustration is growing with Dawn. 'Mr Nice Guy' is Dan's default personality, but if you want to give him a darker side that is born through frustration or a hidden fetish, feel free.

Dan's lack of confidence isn't crushing, but comes from the fact he's not quite found his place in the world. The fact he's still a virgin doesn't help, something which he hasn't told Dawn. Had several brief romances but not got past 'first base.'

Since Dan started university he has become relatively popular with a growing circle of friends which he has worked hard to build. But this has come at a cost to his studies.

    BACKGROUND:
Lives at home with his parents in a close knit family, but spends a lot of time at Dawn's student apartment where he's also befriended Dawn's 4 female flatmates. [ 3 medical students and 1 fashion student. Also, as it's the end of term-time flatmates aren't in the house on night of events. But can return at a later date if your thread continues after said night.]

Dan's parent's house in out of the city so he often stays at Dawn's house during the week. Either taking the couch or a using blow-up mattress in Dawn's room.

    SEX SCENES:
Slightly larger than average cock. But Dan isn't aware of this because of self-doubt and the fact he's only ever compared himself with onscreen porn stars.

    ~

    NAME:
    Dawn

    AGE:
    21

    OCCUPATION:
Ecology student: Financially supported by family including a generous donation from her grandmother who is her closest relative. [Thinking of a future story thread inspired by a conversation I once had with Dawn, where she falls on hard times and puts her good looks to work]

    DESCRIPTION:
Incredibly attractive - so much so she'd been offered modelling contacts in the past. Brunette, tall and slender to the point of being 'model' skinny with petite breasts. [think a young Catherine Zeta Jones] Also, it wasn't intentional, but my profile pic looks identical to the real girl. Dawn likes to show off her legs, so often wears short dresses/skirts with nylons or just dark leggings.

Dawn's clothes in the Introduction are as follows: red strapless dress; red high heels; seamless skin-colored tights; red strapless bra with matching panties (made of a smooth fabric)

    COMPLEX FAMILY BACKGROUND:
Quite wealthy parents [father is an architect] but they're going through a difficult breakup. Mother is a alcoholic and father has always been cold/unloving/strict. Has an older brother who is a waster [smokes weed and unemployed] but enjoys a close relationship with Dawn [although Dan did spot the brother checking out Dawn's ass once :)]. Comes from the remote countryside. Spends a lot of time with her grandmother who lives next door.

    PERSONALITY:
Dawn is a flawed character. Battles depression which over the past year has twice caused her to 'disappear' for three to four weeks. Developing a ruinous relationship with alcohol. Being under the influence inflames her reckless side. Doesn't know/admit it, but she needs saving from herself. Intelligent and very creative. When sober Dawn spends her free time painting, drawing and loves calligraphy.

Dawn has struggled to form deep friendships since the onset of bipolar in her late teens. As she often is forced to let people down, as such, over time they sadly become frustrated with her. Dawn's best friend was a girl called Chloe but as she married young Dawn see's her less now. She is friendly with her flatmates and often go on student nights together - but there is no strong connection between them.

    SEX SCENES:
Small breasts, pale white skin, lithe limbs, No tattoos. Only piercings being one in either ear. Triangle of Trimmed pubic hair sits just above an otherwise smooth pussy. Dawn relies on condoms but is sometimes too drunk to remember if the guy wore one.

    ~

    DAN AND DAWN'S RELATIONSHIP
As the title suggests they're just friends. Known each other for about a year. First met in a lecture when Dan asked her about a headline in a newspaper she was reading. Dan is still amazed he had the courage to ask her for coffee afterwards. They've since been pretty much inseparable, a fact largely down to Dan's persistence. Dan loves Dawn to the point of obsession. However, Dawn just sees it as a close friendship and is happy to have found a good friend... but nothing more. Main problem being, Dawn attracts a lot of attention from guys. So why commit to someone at 21? Plus, frustratingly for Dan, when opportunities do occur, he is often too tied-up with self doubt and/or respect for Dawn to take advantage.

    ~

    JAKE AND RYAN

    Jake: 40:
Former soldier turned enforcer for a local gangster. Severed 6 months for common assault. Never married but has three teenage children. Muscular and tattooed. Bit of a gut.

    Ryan: 31:
Jake's stepbrother. Semi-pro footballer but recently lost his way. Not particularly a bad person, just not very clever. Divorced with 2 young children. Athletic figure. Fell under Jake's influence and now dabbles in dealing cocaine.

    Location

    22 Edinburgh Street
Sparsely furnished Multi-let large Victorian terrace for students. Basement: used for storage, nothing down there to note. Ground floor: consists of living room that contains two couches [one 2 seater and one 3 seater], TV and coffee table. Kitchen that leads to downstairs washroom [toilet, basin and shower]]as well as a bedroom. First Floor: 3 bedrooms and a large washroom [toilet, basin, bathtub.] Second floor: Dawn's loft conversion bedroom. Best room of the house as it's spacious and newly renovated. Contains one single bed, desk, wardrobe, set of draws topped with pictures of friends and family [Dan is pleased to have his picture there]. A couple of bookshelves.

    Please note:

If anyone wants to add any further background information you can comment or send me a private message. I will consider it as long as it doesn't conflict. If I agree to your suggestion I will update this chapter for the other contributors.

Hope to have your contribution soon.

Fantastic. Exactly what I need to kick my branch back into order.

As I explained before all of my current writing is being done from my phone in the time I can spare between other obligations, but once I can sit down at my laptop undisturbed for more than five minutes I'll start working on the edits.

I've finalized a few more elements from when we last talked and I'll run them by you in more detail later!

    Hi Kore,

Just read the 'bonus' chapter on this thread. How beautiful is Respites prose? His writing was strong. and his words were from the heart. A real shame he left the project. I think it would have been a nice addition to Just Friends. Anyway, I really enjoyed your latest chapter, reading about desperate Dan finally emptying his sacks in dirty Dawn.... while she slept. Quality.

Good that you're keeping this alive. And I hope Sidian posts soon. It would be a real shame if this beautifully dark story was to die. I wish more authors would help you guys out.

I can't as I've stopped writing for now. My own story hasn't been updated in an age. Alas... life is busy.

    Thanks :)

Though it probably wasn't the best decision of his life, was it? ^^

Well, I try to publish something to my main stories regularly and there is still so much to tell about Dan and Dawn.
So I don't want to let that story die, even if it only grows slowly.

Yeah... and so much to write but so little time ^^

    That would be great :)
If anyone would like to contribute but needs ideas or advice, just let me know
