I see that CHYOA now has an autoplaying ad in the upper right corner: The link leads to: Spoiler: quote the post to see the whole link https://go.bshrdr.com/?realDomain=c...WidgetV4Universal&referrer=https://chyoa.com/ I did not click the ad, so I have no idea if it leads to a safe site. Any chance it could get changed to NOT autoplay? Some users likely have data caps per month...
Yeah they're super obnoxious. I see there's a new ad link hiding on the main menu on the site too, next to recent activity that pretends to be part of chyoa but takes you to an external site. It's easy enough to remove the link with adblocker, but I had to hide the entire right sidebar in order to avoid the animated ad loading in. Not ideal, but best solution. I've simply stopped visiting the site on mobile. Animated ads are the worst.
I'm definitely not thrilled by these. I get that CHYOA needs to make money, but having it take up space on the sidebar isn't great, and the autoplaying on mobile definitely will affect my use outside the home. Plus, I'm just not into cams. Do these new ads go away for Patreon supporters? If that's what it takes, I'll do that, since I'd been meaning to do it anyway to get rid of the other ads. Edit: I answered my question by becoming a Patreon supporter, the new ads do disappear after supporting. So! That's an option.
That's probably why they were added, to get more money from Patreon. YouTube link Alternatively, here's a quick tutorial showing how to use adblocker to manually block the ads If you can't manually select the animated advert, you can (on chrome at least) right click the ad and select 'inspect'. This will bring up the page source code and you should see a section highlighted in grey. If it says 'adblock-killme-overlay' that's showing you that the site is trying to block adblocker. To solve this, just hit delete on your keyboard to remove the selected grey part of the code. Then follow the guide in the above video. This will remove the ad without having to hide the entire right hand column. Happy reading!
StripChat contacted me and asked if they could run a paid ad test for a month. That's all. However, I understand your concerns about the streamed ad.
You know, most studies show that online ad space doesn't actually improve sales. If anything, it's actually shown to completely rebuff most people from even touching your site or product because they associate with spam, scams, and just all round general obnoxiousness. especially ads and videos that play on their own. Personally, I make lot's of use of adblock explicitly to avoid obnoxious video ads.
I understand that StripChat is trying to determine whether this is actually true, that is, this is an experiment for which they are paying CHYOA. I don't think the ad itself is intrusive; it only occupies a small corner of the widescreen version of the site, and doesn't even appear or start playing on the mobile-size version unless you open the sidebar. In this regard, I would say it's at worst equal to the banner ads. However, I do think the stream autoplaying is an issue when it comes to user's bandwidth. An option to turn off the autoplaying in account settings would be useful. Also, to be clear, I'm quite sure StripChat is a real service and not a scam or hoax.
