I keep reading about people who spend like 2 weeks writing some shitty self help book, and then making money of it. it's not an amazing income but it's easy to make, it costs basically nothing (other than paying Amazon for using their website) and those 10 dollars your book cost are going to become a few hundred dollars in just a few weeks. now move it to sex stories, that you improve with time because you keep writing. I've seen a few Choya writers who started doing this, and I'm sure they are making a nice sum of money. my question is why I keep hearing about poor people complanining there are no jobs. I've learned to code with html in just a few weeks from scrach. and I bet people can do it in less, the internet is fucking powerful. anyone can learn pretty much anything that doesn't require hard physical labor. and writing? holy shit, you basically write a story that a 12 year old can write. you just need to have good sex scenes and you're done. you're making money of people, if someone is willing to pay for porn because he's to lazy to search for high quality HD movies, then how many people are going to pay for high quality sex stories with choices? because it's really hard to find good stories, most sites have shitty stories that are super short, stupid or really badly written. Choya isn't better, I find Choya to be superior to most. however there aren't enough content to make me happy. to few stories, to few options, and all the good writers are leaving to make money on Amazon (which they should) I just got into this recently, and it was amazing to me. how someone could waste a few days or weeks on writing a story and make money out of something he created. it's basically money growing on trees... p.s. I wish I could do it myself, but I have a problem. I don't know if my sex scenes are such a masterpiece that I can't take it. but I can't finish anything because I lose it and start touching myself, and then I can't focus on writing because I need to relieve myself. and after that I'm not horny anymore and I don't feel like writing (it's like a circle of laziness)
There are numerous reasons, starting with the fact that you need a finished story in order to publish it, and you would need to associate your actual name with your work...
Well... why would you? I mean, of course, your actual name could be found by authorities but besides that, you'll stay anonymous behind your pseudonym. Some people can surely do it pretty fast, though that kind of people probably won't have reasons to complain. that's the funny point of view... kind of a scale situation... if no one would pay for content, there would be no content of that kind and there would be nothing to search for... hence there would be people willing to pay for the content and in the end, there will also be the people who search for it... With chYOa's kind of storytelling, you have some advantages as you get feedback earlier, stay motivated more easily and don't have to rush to an end because you can publish it bit by bit. Well... wasting time on a hobby is a way to have fun. Other people pay a lot of money for theirs. The journey is the reward. Try edging... if you get off within 8 hours, you lose
At the risk of being glib, if it was that easy everyone would be doing it. Even at the level you are talking about, it requires a certain minimal amount of time and effort just to crank out the word count. Then, once you've got a finished story you also need to have some ability as an editor, publicist, designer and be able to navigate the constantly shifting labyrinth of multiple platforms' content policies. Assuming you manage all that well enough to sell your product you'll find you're not exactly raking it in. In fact, most full-time professional writers earn well under the minimum wage https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...es-below-minimum-wage-survey-average-earnings and those are the successful ones. I'm not suggesting we all throw in the towel and take up knitting instead. If you can make a bit of money from your hobby that's great. But if your motivation financial a second job bussing tables evening and weekends is likely to be much more lucrative.
It's easier than ever before to make some money out of writing porn - Amazon Kindle and Smashwords and similar sites have just made it really easy to "publish" and monetize digital content. And you see writers make a go of it, usually putting out a spate of titles in a short time, aimed at a specific kink or kinks...and they usually sputter out after a couple weeks or months. The market is fair saturated with self-published porn, a lot of it you can read for free, and the stuff you pay for isn't always much better. The ones that make an actual go of it keep publishing, building up a catalog of titles, offer bundles...anything to bring a couple bucks in. But it is only a couple bucks; there just isn't room for many Chuck Tingles in the world, much less Anne Rices and E. L. Jameses. So yeah, you can do it...if that's what you want to do. It's harder with fanfic, of course, because you don't own the characters and have to change all the names so you don't get sued. But if that's what you want to do...do it.
Spindizzy, you are talking about the UK, which has a minimum wage that isn't a cruel joke. In the USA you would do better to work at honing your writing skills than getting a second job.
I received a pretty good reception when I first started writing back in 2016 (I think I have a pretty great likes to chapters ratios, 184 chapters to about ~4200 likes) so I made a Patreon. I wasn't really making much money, but it was one of those situations of, "If I'm going to be writing adult content for fun, might as well just make some random money with it too." I used the money from Patreon to just fund other Patreons that I liked. I definitely think it's pretty easy to make money from this, but with the caveat that making a livable amount would probably be pretty difficult and you would be better off looking for something else. After awhile I actually decided that the site just wasn't for me and I stopped writing to make hentai games, which seemed like a natural evolution.
I've been considering starting a patron or just adding a donation link. Maybe it would drive me to add to my stories more frequently, but at the same time this is a hobby I do in what little spare time I have and don't want people to feel cheated if I go on a hiatus due to life. I think that rules out patron for me. There's also the issue that I don't think my stories are that great either so I'd feel guilty about taking someone's money. I'm not even sure where I'd put a donation link. Somewhere in the profile?
I have several ebooks on Amazon under the pen name Nicklaus Irons. The first few months, I made hundreds, but then Amazon decided that erotic books should be hidden unless searched for specifically. Now I make a few bucks a month.
“you would need to associate your actual name with your work...” *yeeeesh* yea and considering what we do HERE that might be problematic...
What Wicker said. I looked into it and since Amazon derped the search feature for erotica much like Patreon has it’s severely hampered monetization.
It's unfortunate, but like similar ventures, writing anything (especially something fairly niche like erotic fiction) is a slightly lucrative side-hustle for a few, a free hobby for most, and a decent living for maybe a handful. Kind of like being an independent film maker, YouTuber, musician, or anything like that. You can do decent with enough skill, some luck, and utilizing the right channels at the right time, but chances are you'll get some recognition, make a few bucks, and it'll take a far second place to a "real" job. Plus, and I'm being a hypocrite here, most people would rather wank it to a 5-minute video on PornHub than get invested in a 200 page story about people doing the same thing.
I can't speak for everyone but I think some of us are published writers? What I write on CHYOA and other erotica sites is purely for fun. I'd rather keep it anonymous than risk someone tracking me down through a payment trail and losing writing gigs because potential clients might think I'm a pervert. If I thought I could easily make the same amount of bank churning out delightful filth I'd definitely do that.
