As you might know, Imgur is removing adult images from their site. This was perhaps the default hosting site for most images posted on internet platforms. So if your story links to adult images on that site, there’s a good chance that the link will become broken. So now that we can’t use Imgur anymore, what are some viable alternatives?
Note that existing CHYOA images that were originally hosted on Imgur were backed up on an external site made by Friedman ahead of the purge, so content that was published before May shouldn't be affected. Don't stress about needing to find hosting for old images. (The issue remains for new images, however.)
I use imgur but I've not posted anything since the purge though. However, I don't actually publish the pics on imgur, just save them to my profile. If they are not published then there's nothing to take down but you can still use imgur to host them. Purge or not this should still work. My biggest issue with imgur is their editor is broken, for years now I've not been able to edit pics on there, all I get is the loading wheel going around and around without loading. I pre edit the pics using Paint them load them now. It's a minor hassle but one that I can easily put up with.
I confess to not being an imgur regular or know much about the site. I simply use it to host pics, I've never even browsed through the site. I just checked my account and I've got 446 porn pics that are NSFW and still there. Perhaps they'll get taken down in the purge but as far as I can tell, they are not public or have been posted. Perhaps this is why they've not been taken down or perhaps the purge has just not reached me yet, I'm really not sure.
You can link pictures from a discord server, so you can create a private server to host your pics and link them here which has the bonus of being able to sort them by story using channels
I just uploaded a few GIFs for my new story and found imgbox.com to be intolerably slow. They're 5-8 MB, with a duration of 4-6 seconds each. Uploading was quick enough, but when viewing them the first second or so loaded quickly, but then it slowed to crawl and finally just stalled out completely, well before the end of the second, uh, second of the GIFs. postimages.org worked a lot better for me. Quick and snippy.
