(Thank you! Now to catch up with a lot of reading and writing...)
Nami felt an odd sense of embarrassment at the sight of the box – as if leaving it out was anywhere near as shameful as the way she’d already acted towards Thassco. As a way to buy back some shred of self-respect, she quickly grabbed the box and put it away out of sight. Banishing from her mind the thought of taking the time to pick something out of it and release some tension – she couldn’t risk it.
Next, she dug through her things for a suitable outfit, eventually settling on a long, figure-hugging dark blue dress. Although it would cover the essential areas well enough, certain parts – the deep scoop in its neckline at the front, the open back and the slit down one side of the skirt – were filled in only by a thin transparent mesh, creating the merest sense of coverage while concealing almost nothing. Usually she would wear something else under it to complement it more tastefully, but here… here, she thought she would need the full distraction factor. She slipped into it as it was, feeling its thin protection over her bare skin.
The dress would not let her conceal her blaster, or much of anything else; this time, she would have to rely on her medical bag to carry everything. She opened up the bag and ran through its contents now, checking that, along with the tools she’d need, she had a suitable dose of a sedative that would keep an adult male Selkath safely asleep for a good few hours – something that could be slipped subtly into a drink. When, or if, she got the chance.
Finally, as dressed and as ready as she was going to be, she picked up the bag and returned to where she’d left Thassco. She tried to carry herself professionally, as much so as her new outfit and the weakness in her knees would allow.
