Title says it. I'd like to be able to edit my typos out of direct messages, please?
with no downside other than the vague potential that the reader might feel slightly inconvenienced by the process
îa DM with an abusive message could be sent, read, and then the sender could alter the wording
Also, I assume even if you edit, the old version of a message could still be accessible by the admins to prevent that abuse scenario.
Currently there’s a small window for editing - I think it’s about five minutes? After that you’re stuck with what you’ve sent.
It doesn't prevent such a scenario. That's been addressed, if you'll read further.
prevent that abuse scenario
That's an issue by itself.message could still be accessible by the admins
Ok, I've not had enough coffee yet, so this is confusing me. But what could be in a DM that would cause an accusation, legal dispute and security and liability issues?I'm not saying you should, at least not on a regular basis, just that it should be possible for an admin to provide access to pre-edit posts in the case of some kind of legal dispute or accusation. And not just for DMs either. For security and liability reasons, if nothing else. I mean, if you don't even have that capability, doesn't that put you in legal jeopardy?

My DMs are normally 'Hey, Friedman, can we have this new weird ass category I thought of' or 'Hey, nice chapter you published yesterday'.
I need to up my game.
