What means "Editor needed"?

They are stories that need someone willing to do more then add chapters.
The original chapters need a good edit, additional material to flesh out the story a little, or maybe a complete rewrite depending on the story.

 

Shoot, I don't hardly adopt anything else. There was this one story I was thinking of adopting and I took a look at it: well, let's just say it might be one chapter long, But I'll count myself lucky if I'm ever able to write anything half that good...

should stories with only one chapter be removed?

seems like just spam to me, sure the idea might be "cool", but there are so many of them. Choya would be amazing if writers didn't drop their works, and every story would be maintained by the community.

oh come on! at least explain why, think about it with in a logical sense (unlike most of humanity). someone writes a chapter and then leaves, is that what you want?, spam stories? how different could they be that a new guy couldn't write the same thing in his more complete story?

So what sense would it make to logically explain it to you?

Sorry, I just assumed that you excluded yourself when you said

- Additional stories don't clutter up the page (as they have to be old to supposedly be abandoned)
- When searching for phrases with Google or similar, every single chapter can be a result, so even an one chapter story could lead readers or writers to the site. Of course, they could leave as quickly as they came (in a non-sexual way) without joining the site, but the chances are definitely higher than if they don't even saw the site.
- The content was created and shared by someone. It may be good or bad, just as every other story on the site. So, how can you justify to delete other people's work?
- For some writers, it can be easier to have a basic idea to add to instead of creating a story from scratch. (That said, it could be good to have an automatic way to tell the site moderators when a chapter is added to a story where the owner and all editors weren't online for a while)
- If a writer thinks the idea of such a one chapter story is good, they could use a modified, even enhanced version of it. With the deletion of these stories, you scrap that ideas.
- One chapter stories don't hurt. If they appear in the search results, you can simply identify and ignore them by the chapter depth stat or filter all stories with low chapter depth. Depending on your expectations you could also filter by last activity.

 

I have a number of one chapter stories to my credit, and I'm proud of them because they were great ideas... That I couldn't find any way to continue. Just because you can think of a genius intro doesn't mean you can develop it any further than that. I hope to return to them with fresh eyes someday, but at the moment I've got nothing. That doesn't mean I want to let them be deleted. Someone else could find their muse in that content and take them places I never could, perhaps tomorrow perhaps fifty years from now, perhaps, God willing, five hundred years from now. Unless they are deleted, then, that's it, game over. The glorious story that might have been someday; now will never be. That's why we keep them around, because, lets face it, everything we do on this site is glorified fan-fiction, and that's both our curse and our triumph.
