I've been thinking of taking some of the old stuff I've written on here (it was part of someone else's story) and redoing it (mostly just switching it from first to third person) as one chunk of a new story of my own. Is that considered to be in poor taste, since it would end up inflating my story/chapter count (is that something that even matters on here)? Where does that fall on the smut etiquette scale?
Well, just doing copy/paste seems odd. If you rework it and adjust it for the new story until it is just similar... if the reader won't notice... why not? Well, there are authors who try to create stories similar to game mode stories without using that features, which results in multiple branches of identical content...
If it's your own work, I don't think it's a big deal. Seeing as you're planning on revamping it anyways, you could always make changes to better fit the story you want to write. Writers take old material and rework it all the time. After a second pass through, you can find things you want to improve or tweak, so it it's not like it has to be a copy paste effort.
There is an old saying in creative circles called 'kill your darlings', I think it refers to being able to let go of certain ideas that you may love that may not necessarily work in certain contexts of whatever story you are doing, at least until you find the right context to use those ideas. However, there is nothing wrong with revisiting old ideas and concepts that you feel could be better fleshed out and reworking those ideas until they meet your own personal satisfaction. Of course, there is a danger of reworking ideas so often that it'll never be finished or be satisfied with the end result. On the other hand, creativity should always be encouraged and never discouraged, as it keeps the imagination active.
I did something similar in my pokegirls story, I Include a credits chapter branch on chapter 2 to explain its origins for credit to original story.
