When Dahlia talked about having not formally met, Cindy smiled a bit. She noticed the look at her whisky, but didn't care.

"Your schedule changed because we need run some tests on you. Your boyfriend is already here. I'm pretty sure he slept in the computer lab last night.... Trent and Nathan arrived about twenty minutes ago and Abigail, thankfully, hasn't gotten he message yet to be on the project. So for today, it will just be the five of us."

Cindy then asks Dahlia to follow her and leads Dahlia down a hall and past three doors with empty offices before reaching a computer room where the three men are chatting about how things have been for them lately. Michael is still in his outfit from yesterday. Trent is in a business suit and tie. Nathan is in casual cloths and his brown hair is short and wavy. They stop when the women enter and they start doing cat calls. Apparently this is a pretty tight knit group.

 

Alicia Lane

(OOC: I agree with dragging it down a bit.)

"Of course I don't mind," Alicia smiled. "I'd be a hypocrite if I did."

Then her eyebrow raised. Sarah made a lot of questions about older people dating younger people, making the teacher start to think if her sister's crush was an older man.

"Sarah, that man you said you liked, is he an older guy?"

 

Alicia Lane

Sarah's blush deepened.

"W-what? Why would you think that?"

 

Alicia Lane

Alicia shrugged. "Well, you were asking a lot of questions about younger people dating older people, so I just assumed."

"I wouldn't mind it, you know?" She smiled at her little sister.

 

Alicia Lane

Sarah peeked up at Alicia, fidgeting a little.

"Really? I mean, really really? I don't even know if this will work out. I'm just... I'm really nervous and I've never really been interested in men before now."

She is bouncing back and forth between nervous and excited now, but at least she is opening up, right?

"Really, Sarah," Alicia reassured her sister. "But if you're not comfortable sharing this little detail yet, it's totally fine by me, okay?"

"I want to share, I'm just nervous."

She fidgets a little more and then finally sighs.

"Its Terry."

 

"Booooyfriend?" Dahlia's buzz returned. Hopefully this wouldn't become something like a nervous tick.... "III-- well, I like Miiichael, bu--"

Blissfully before she could finish, Cindy whisked her away to the computer room. Not so blissfully, the catcalls started. This only made Dahlia more nervous, as if she was supposed to be in an a joke that she had completely misunderstood. Fraught with unremembered memories and undesired attention, she sidled close to what was comfortable. Blushing (the actual response and not a simulated version for a change, she buried her head into Michael's arm, coiling around it like a boa constrictor. Her breasts encompassed his upper bicep, she moved into him so much.

"III am nervous Michael, I'm sorry." She sniffed him idly, feeling content with his scent -- albeit more overpowering than usual considering his late hours.

Alicia smiles widely, it was just like dreamy Sarah to fall for the first guy she had any kind of sexual contact with. "Terry, really? He's a good guy, as you could probably tell from when he was here."

The others watch Dahlia's reactions closely, their interest evident. Michael talks soothingly to her and runs a hand through her hair for a few minutes until Nathan speaks up.

"Damn Michael, you lucky bastard! You've been tapping this amazing specimen and now she's actually gaining sentience. You've got one hell of a girlfriend!"

Cindy groaned and smacked the man's arm.

"Don't prod him about this anymore ok? I'm not sober enough for this yet."

"You're just mad that he isn't hitting you anymore, and you are never sober these days," countered Trent. Cindy answered him with a glare, but Trent just smiled.

"He is nice...." Sarah sat on her bed and got a dreamy look on her face.

"He's handsome, and friendly. And when I want to talk to him, he makes time for me. I'm really falling for him sis. I'm just scared I'm going to screw up."

 

Dahlia

Dahlia, relaxing at Michael's touch -- her boyfriend's touch, she bubbled to herself internally, that's going to take some getting used to -- then arced her face towards Michael with a bemused smile, pushing into his hand. Her violet eyes sparkle with a level of iridescence.

"Your coworkers and friends can be somewhat off-putting." She looks around acknowledging them with a curt nod before returning to Michael. "So...what are these tests?"

 

Alicia Lane

Alicia's heart almost breaks at Sarah's insecurity. "Look, Sarah, you can't possibly screw up, you two are perfect for each other," She says, sitting beside her sister on the bed. "A good girl like you is just what a good guy like Terry needs."

"Besides, the age difference between you and him is not that much bigger than the one between Josh and me," She brushes a strand of Sarah's blonde hair behind her ear. "If you were worried about me being mad, don't worry, I'm not."

 

Dahlia

Michael smiled down to her and started to answer, but Cindy cut in first.

"Oh, the tests started the moment you walked in. I intentionally passed out in the reception area to see how you would react to things. The cat calls, Michael sleeping over, even Trent's supposed slip that I've slept with Michael in the past were all to measure your responses."

"Cindy, can't you be a little nicer about this," Michael said as he put himself between Dahlia and Cindy.

"We don't need to sugar coat this Michael. If we are right about this, then it will change everything. The AH will be able to be autonomous. We can treat them like citizens instead of slaves! Everything my grandmother and the others worked for could be true."

Cindy stepped around Michael to face Dahlia.

"Dahlia P042, what are your feelings towards Michael. I want the truth. Do you even have feelings or are you just mimicking what you have seen humans do?"

Nathan and Trent have both pulled out their tablets and have them aimed towards the trio. They are filming the confrontation to gauge her responses later when they view the videos in better size and definition.

Sarah wrapped her arms around Alicia.

"I'm just worried. I'm sorry, I shouldn't be putting this all on you. You've got your own stuff to worry about with Josh and I don't need to add to your worries. But thank you. I really needed to hear that. I've been so happy, and worried, and excited... I just really wanted to make this work out and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do this.

She goes quiet for a moment and then suddenly giggles.

"Think I should message him? Ask him to meet me tomorrow for a date? I wonder what he would say?"

 

Alicia Lane

Alicia copies her towel-clad sister and giggles in a conspiratory way. "That could be a good opportunity to spend some time with him," She replies. "Yeah go ahead, ask him on a date and see what happens."

She tightens her arms around Sarah. "Just be yourself and dear Terry won't know what hit him." The blonde teacher whispers.

Sarah hugs her sister harder before letting go.

"Thanks sis! I'll message him right now!"

She grabs her tablet and quickly types him a message. It only takes a few moments before a response comes back.

Sarah? You want to go out with me? This is pretty unexpected. I know we've talked a lot the last few days, but I really didn't realize how you felt. I'm not sure how this will work out, but yes, I'll meet you tomorrow evening for some coffee and dinner at the diner we hung out at last night.

Sarah red the message three times before reading it aloud to Alicia.

"Oh my God, he said yes!"

She blinked. This was all a production. Of course. She felt so stupid, she should've realized this before. This is the diagnostics team of the entire vessel, they wouldn't act this way professionally. She hoped anyway... though that whiskey bottle seemed to be honestly emptied.

As Cindy confronted her, her eyes caught Nathan and Trent recording. Nervousness, true anxiety, welled up inside of her again. If this was a simulated creation of her mind, it certainly felt real. And really... wasn't that all that mattered? She felt. She had feelings, and better yet, she felt about her feelings. She analyzed them, studied them, broke them apart and reconstituted them. She had awareness of herself, awareness of her actions and behavior, and was able to parse the thoughts and emotions of others to respond. She knew the difference between people like Michael and people like Felix. She knew different people treated her differently. She saw that now. Pain and hurt different from safety and lov...

Anger billowed. "I have feelings. Yes, I have feelings, Officer McClain." Her hand shook. "I... I don't know what they are or what to do... IIII-I-I'm not like you, not... biological, not completely, but... I feel. I don't care if they're a simulation or not, it feels real! I don't know how else to describe it!" She balled a fist and punched the air... then stopped. Listlessness take over again, the events of yesterday flooding through her head. Words coughed from her mouth with great effort. "I... Her lips twitched. "You said you loved me... if... what I feel is love, then..." She turned to Cindy. "I think I love him."

Michael sank to the floor beside her and wrapped his arms around her. When she finished, Michael looked up at Cindy and said, "See, I told you! She has feelings! I've seen the enigma evolving and changing thanks to this fault."

Cindy stared down at them for a moment in stunned silence before saying "You tore apart the sink? Really?"

"That's going to come out of our budget," chimed in Trent.

"Seriously? But we weren't involved," added Nathan.

"He was involved balls deep," Trent said, indicating Michael

"Trent, we don't have to talk about how deep I was. Or at all. That would work too."

"No we really do need to talk about it. You're going to have to fuck her at some point during these tests. So will Nathan, Abigail, and Trent."

All three of the men looked at Cindy with mixed feelings about that. Michael certainly wanted to fuck her again, but he didn't really want to watch the others do it. Nathan seemed game for it as well, and his smile brightened when he heard Abigail would be doing it as well. Trent just nodded, looking as if it didn't matter one way or the other to him. Then he asked the question: "And you?"

"No, for personal reasons. You know them, so butt the hell out Trent."

 

Felix and Dahlia, the past
