I want to write fun stories but am scared of having my real identity uncovered, which would be bad. Is chyoa secure enough I don't have to worry or are there steps I should take to prevent such things? Thanks!
I mean, it seems to be as secure as any other site like this. I figure as long as you don’t put all your personal info somewhere on the site you should be fine.
I haven't been asked and haven't volunteered any personally identifiable information so I feel pretty anonymous here. Nothing's 100% safe these days but if someone goes to the trouble of hunting me down for some reason, I suspect they'll do it through Google, not CHYOA lol!
In general, people will only see the information you share. So you have control over the information you share. That said, you might want to be careful about what information you're giving away. If someone powerful is going after you to "dig some dirt," they might get information about your browsing history from your ISP. The outcome of that might be related to the local privacy laws, storage of that information, and how powerful "they" are. (Think of an intelligence service.) If you suspect something like that, precautions might be appropriate. (Though in such extreme cases, they might not work anyway.) If you do something that is illegal, prosecutors might be able to force the site to reveal the IP address that has been used for the illegal activity. Then they might be able to trace it back to your ISP and your real name.
Also be careful that you don't use your CHYOA username outside of 'adult' sites, and be cautious with linking to your own content on other sites. I know of at least two users who have inadvertently given away their real, full names in the past because they've linked to something that's attached to both their username and real name. (Granted, one of them seemed to be apathetic.)
I’m not sure what you mean. We have to store IP addresses for a short period of time (and the IP addresses are anonymized and then deleted). Nothing unusual. On the contrary, even better thanks to the anonymization. If we did not know your IP address when you accessed the website, the server would not be able to send you any content. If you have concerns, I recommend using a proxy or VPN.
You're perfectly safe here. Isn't that right ANDREW!!! . . . . . . . . . . . (I've no idea of your name. Just thought it would be hilarious if I guessed correctly!)
I personally have a Gmail account for all my 'adult' stuff and essentially use the one alias on the internet for everything adult (buyer internet) as my standard Email/username everywhere else on the internet is literally my name. So if anyone looks up buyerinternet they're only going to find my account on other sites or my Email which is purely for adult stuff. That may become a little more complex if you're trying to publish things for money as I imagine Amazon may want a real name for payments/tax purposes. But I certainly wouldn't be putting my real name anywhere unless I had to!
I mean I for one don't already go by my birth name as I have separated myself from that, for the most part. Why? Personal reasons. So I go by nicknames and names I like that I come up with!
