How will the story variables be handled if I may ask? Inside a session-cookie or via query-string? I could imagine some problems if you jump directly to a chapter or visit a chapter twice and get double its 'benefits'.

We have gotten a little off topic. Please start a dedicated thread for the conditional branches questions.

Another NSFW site I'm member on recently implemented Patreon for covering their server costs (which are higher than here) and they reached their goal within a week.
It may only 1 or 2$ each month for each of us (12 resp. 24$ per year), an amount I think most people won't mind.
And there isn't anything as a reward beside a small mention as supporter in the profile info.

I would support via Patreon, not much but a bit, to keep the side running.

Ads are the easiest way to generate money. I don't mind, I turn off AdBlock at home for websites I support. The ads look nice Friedman, and on my phone, they don't seem to be immediately NSFW-y. (I share your concern, Airwreck. How's it look to you?) I support a Patreon page as well, with any concerns about its feasibility notwithstanding. I'd treat it like a magazine subscription.

So far the ads I've seen on my phone are animated and shows full penetration. It's not something I want for someone to glance at. When I write during my long commute to/from work I want to be discreet.

I don't know what others are seeing but I am getting things like looping animations of a girl having a dick bounced off her face, which are extremely distracting and defiantly not SFW.

No, I'm seeing it most of the time as well. Also, I'm pretty sure it'll be difficult to get an ad network for SFW ads. As far as I've seen, it's SFW for SFW sites and NSFW for NSFW sites.

But what is really distracting is that I am starting to see the ads fixed to the bottom of the page on the desktop as you scroll. On mobile, it's easy to extend your thumb to close it, but on a larger resolution where you would normally use a mouse, you have to move the mouse down to close the ad. I'm one of the people who uses the spacebar to scroll down when reading, so I prefer not to use my mouse until I have to click an option.

Again, I am for the static ad on the top and I can probably tolerate a fixed ad on the bottom when I am reading on my phone because it's easy to close, but an ad fixed on the bottom while I am reading on my laptop? I think that crosses the line in terms of intrusion.

I understand this is an experiment to see what works best, but I am tempted to turn back on my ad blocker for this part of the placement because it's really annoying to see a guy cock slap a girl on the cheek as I read through a chapter.

I'm also not very pleased with the graphical aspect of the ads. Once we get to the next ad network (in about a week), I have more options (softcore, bikini). Unfortunately, SFW networks only accept SFW sites. Therefore, we have only NSFW ad networks to choose from. Does anyone know an ad network around erotic literature, or do I have to start one myself? ;)

I saw one ad network for literature, but they had a policy against adult sites. :/

Huge niche opportunity for a purely erotic literature ad network. Even better, allow non-erotic and erotica ads because truly, I'll read a story if it grabs my attention, regardless of whether it's non-erotic and I find it on an erotic site. I love plain fantasy stories for example.

Adding to the idea of sponsored ads on this site, it doesn't have to mean promoting an interactive here. It could also mean promoting a kindle book, literotica story, or any written story that may be interesting to a user-base regardless of whether it is erotica or not.

Hm, Amazon affiliate links for erotic Kindle literature? I have the impression it brings in a good deal for Amazon.

Slight modification: Instead of display ad "B" I'll test a popunder. Less intrusion, hopefully more revenue. It seems as if there is not much money to make with banner ads anymore.

Is it a popunder? Upon opening a new browser session and clicking on the first link, I get a pop-up instead. This is on Chrome.

I believe xhamster and imagefap does this as well. It only happens once, so I never really minded it, but their popup contents would always open in a new tab without being focused.

It should be a popunder, in a new tab, not focused. But I assume that the script behaves differently on some devices.

I'm on ArchLinux, using palemoon and the UBlock extension (similar to noscript + AdAway). I have ublock set to disabled for chyoa. I've had pop-ups open in new tabs (probably the ones I click on), but I periodically get spontaneous ones that open themselves. These ones cause my browser to crash every time that I try to interact with them. Since they register with ublock as non-chyoa, it prompts me to allow or disallow the known ad server. It doesn't matter what I click, however. It just crashes the program. I'll try disabling ublock in its entirety and see if this continues. I haven't had crashes with Chromium. in spite of it running ublock as well, but who knows.

The popunders are coming up as standard redirects, using my existing tab, on my S6 using Chrome as my browser. One even refused to let me go back to CHYOA.

For a while, this was the type of ad I kept seeing:

    Screenshot_2016-01-22-11-18-01.png

Just a banner ad for something more explicit, but now I get "ACT NOW IF YOU WANT BIG COCK," so I totally understand now.

If you do that Friedman, I'm pretty sure you'll ascend to a higher plane of technomancy and become one with the deity of sysadmins.

Banner ads are typically tolerable when they are minimal and do not obstruct the content on the page.

Popups/unders and audio ads are not tolerable under any circumstances.

Definitely agree here! I've been re-directed to one particular page that claims to have "blocked your access to the internet" 3 times now when I was simply clicking on a link to a story or other site link. This means I have to shut down my browser and start it up again or delete my browser history just to clear it out. Not to mention the number of time I've had "free cam" windows open.

99% of the ads I've seen are uncontestably NSFW which makes checking, writing or reading anything on the site on my lunch even more difficult than it already was.

    My suggestions:
    • Patreon - It would be worth a couple of bucks a month.
    • Project Wonderful - Drunk Duck Webcomics uses it to the advantage of its users. Creators can put ads and banners on the Drunk Duck site to showcase their comics. The same could be done here. I've included the link if you would like to check it out.

    Redirects are definitely a problem.
While most of the adds so far were pretty ugly I kept AddBlock off to support the site, but I had to turn it back on now because the redirects kept getting in the way of me actually accessing the content.

It's been almost a month. How's the add ad revenue coming along?
