Is there any other way to have multiple different chapters lead to the same chapter without linking and without just copying and pasting the chapter? If not, is there anyway to do linking without the end user seeing the disconcerting "this chapter is linked to X" screen?
If you are looking at your own story while logged in, you see the links. Other readers will not. If you log out and navigate your story, you can see how it looks to another user (where a linked chapter takes you straight to the destination, without the "this chapter is linked" screen). Maybe someone could also suggest a different author's story that makes use of links.
I was think that was happening, but couldn't look at the unpublished pages to test, so double thanks.
I also only realised it when suddenly someone asked how I make it possible in my stories that there's no "linked" page. I was dumbfounded, because I thought there were. Maybe there should be a quick note informing authors?
It's been confusing to a number of authors. I guess it could be added as a note to the link page. "Authors: Your Story Readers Will Be Taken Directly To the Linked Chapter Without Seeing This Page."
In addition to a note, I could imagine an option switch "editor mode / live mode" (ajax, store in session)
Yo, I'm having a problem with linking as well, and as it's related to linking, I thought I'd post this question here in this recent thread rather than starting a new one. When I highlight a sentance or word and paste a link, to make it lead a reader to another chapter by clicking on it, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It used to work fine, taking the reader to the required page, but just today it began to loop back on itself, refusing to go to the required page, and just saying a message 'Back to current chapter'. I thought that it was perhaps I was in editor mode, but the other, older links work just fine when not in editor mode. If anyone knows what the problem is please tell me, I'd really like to know! Apologies if this is what ya'll were talking about, I'm a little simple minded and I'm currently a little tired, heh.
You're using an unusual linking technique by pasting links into the body of a chapter. If you've activated Game Mode for your story, it may fight with the kind of links you're using.
And I see your story https://chyoa.com/story/The-Z-end-Times.9095 does have game mode active. Game mode prevents navigating using the story map or similar chapter links.
At the edit story page you can choose "Chapters can have conditions". If checked, you can use variables and conditions. (Conditional branching) The reader will see "Start Game" in the right column to use the variables and conditions. Within an active "game" you can't navigate through the story map.
