I made small change to my character skills, by delete elemental magic and putting this point in divine magic to make them two.
Name: Izumi Komi/Jia Nickname(s): The Red Vision Age: 30s human form/demon unknown Race: Human/Demon Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Bi-leaning towards men Appearance: Spoiler: Other Spoiler: Oni Form Spoiler: Background Background/Personality: Growing up in a far away region, she was from a small village. Daughter of the local priest and exorcist, her duties were to aid the temple and learn the ways of spiritual arts to help put souls to rest. However, it was early on that her father as well as several other spiritual masters she was taught by realized her....condition. While cases of possession are common, many of them aren't convinced that's really the case. Most admit they never seen anything quite like it from other cases before. Everyone has a capacity for good and bad. In Komi's case, her dark side in a very real way, seeps out and twists into a demon. Whatever the exact cause, she does take on the appearance of a demon, and more importantly, the strength and mind of one. When she was younger, she was usually capable of suppressing it well enough on it's own, and when she wasn't, the masters were strong enough to put a stop to it. As she aged and her powers in magic grew, so did her dark side's strength seem to increase accordingly. Eventually it started to come the time it wasn't as easily restrained anymore, doing quite a bit of damage to the village and nearby towns. The demon had been named "The Red Vision", in part for it's boundless rage and that it would be the last thing most people would see. Soon, everyday, the question became what to do about it. While it was possible for the master's to force it back down or silence it for a while, it would always come back and could never truly be destroyed. If it was a possession, eventually it could be exorcised. But none of the standard means seemed to ever work. The belief of a few was that if it really was such a thing as a evil side taking demon form, it could eventually be expelled with the right meditation. They tried everything they possibly could, only stopping short of outright killing her to conclude that there really was nothing that could be done by them. It was something that could only be fought by the person themselves. As a priestess, she's a very sociable person and enjoys spending company with others. While she does lean more into the wine than she should, she's overall well meaning and truly cares for the people under her guidance. Her other side, doesn't have as much to it. It almost only exists as this destructive force to start destroying anything, completely indiscriminate. The most her demon form offers is the occasional desire to hold back enough to dominate instead of destroy and reign supreme, but ultimately remains solely a being of brute force. The exact relationship Komi has with her other self is not easily described. Both are aware of and while neither enjoys the other, they view each other as ultimately, one in the same. Jia is a part of Komi, as much as Komi is Jia. Komi views the oni as a part of herself with weariness, and Junko knows enough that the mortal needs to keep living so she can. Both can do things the other can't. And both are two halves of the whole. As such, Komi has no intention to purge it. She aims to find the means to bring the two selves into balance with each other to master the oni's strength, without sacrificing her mind. Goal(s): Seeks a way to master her demon form in balance with the mind of her human form. Excuse for visiting: As a wandering exorcist, it's her duty to offer her services to whoever needs them. This is true. Skills and Traits: (5 points, plus up to 5 more from flaws) 5 point ONE skill at level 3. All other skills must be level 1 or 2. Traits cost 1 point each and have no levels - you either have the trait, or not. The effects of all traits must be positive. Human: Spiritual power** Enchanting* Knowledge(Occult)* Knowledge(Creatures)* Alchemy* Trait: Sixth Sense: The ability to pick up on magical or spiritual energy. It comes almost naturally due to years of training, but doesn't help perceive things any better than she would otherwise if they lack any kind of magical signature. Demon: Strength *** Reflexes * Thunder Force*-Unlike natural magic, it's manifested through physical force and ki. As a result, it's often powerful, but lacks a lot of the fine control magic has. Traits: Tough * Fire resistant * She can either be smart or she can be strong, but she cannot be both at the same time. As much as she might try to work things out socially or plan them out in her human state, it's always a matter of time before the oni comes out and starts rampaging. Flaws: The first 5 flaws give you 1 skill point each. Any flaws beyond the fifth give you no points, you get only the negative effect from the flaw Human: Stress Trigger- Deep rage, excessive alcohol, and just about anything that breaks her concertation to keep her demon state dormant is a risk. Even outside of that, depending on the moon phases, nightfall might just change that anyway. She can't seem to ever access the form intentionally, at least without working up the tension first. Most of the time, it's not intentional, but always dangerous. The longer periods go with it continually suppressed, the harder it gets to keep down. Weak Constitution- A mostly sheltered life, leaves her human form while visually appealing, poor in stamina and endurance. Demon: Savage: Jia is too wild for any complex strategies or even difficult tasks like "reading" are too much too expect from her demon form. Unless, there's a specific reason, Jia's thought process often goes to just immediately smashing the first thing in front of her. Weakness-Ice: While the form is more powerful, there is a drawback in that she becomes especially sensitive and vulnerable to ice magic that while her human form wouldn't resist, wouldn't be any more vulnerable to than a regular person otherwise. Equipment: Money: 200 Gil Rations for 1 week A spare set of clothes Talisman papers** Both a tool and an offensive weapon able to channel the power of the spirit realm to create curses or wards. Basic Alchemy set* Herbs* I don't know about this idea or how it would work in theory. Basically, her human state and demon state both offering skills the other doesn't. I'm not sure how the cost or flaws would work out, since it would be kind of dynamic as a trait and at least a few degrees of a flaw. Just an idea. I don't know if it sounds good to you.
That's an interesting character. I admit I had not thought about how to handle skills of such “two-in-one” characters. Maybe have one set of skills, traits and flaws for the human form and another set for the oni form? But both forms share equipment and everything else. I think that might work. Two things I'd like to let everyone know: 1) I was thinking about combat, and decided to try something a little different. Tactics will be more important than skills. The correct approach could win you an easy battle without any dice rolls; a hard battle will still require dice rolls, but fewer in number and with a bonus. Since each battle is different the same ideas won't always work – charging at the enemy might be a terrible idea in one battle, and the best choice in another. 2) Almost everything in the game will require two or more rolls, and in most cases you don't have to succeed at all of them to win. For example, when trying to seduce someone a good roll will bring you close to success, while a bad roll could be a significant setback. But in both cases it is not over, and your character can still fail (if they get overconfident) or succeed (if they don't get discouraged from the initial failure). I'll try to have the first post ready tomorrow.
I see you have added sklills and traits. I'll wait until you have added equipment too before introducing the character. One thing I noticed is you put two points in the Tough trait. Normally traits cost 1 point, so you could add another trait... or we can say that she's really tough and having 2 points in a trait is like having two traits that both make her tough. Anyay, I decided to go ahead and start: https://forum.chyoa.com/threads/the-founding-of-marika.4558/
Equipment done I think I revised things enough. I might tweak skills a bit later today when I can, but at work now. I feel like it should be mostly fine as is
