Well,Animorphs and anybody who has the morphing technology can speak telepathically with anyone, so giving consent wouldn't really be the problem. The problem is that it's still basically cheating at the Beastiality rule.
No, it's not. If Nemo can get away with Pokemon that have to communicate by scratching in the dirt, and if the furry stories can get away with ferals, you could get away with fully sentient, telepathic people with an animal's body.
Well, Pokemon and Feral Furries have the advantage of being able to claim Fictional creature. I do get where you're coming from though. Still...I think I have too many half-started stories right now to write yet another introductory chapter to a story i may never publish.
It's a gray area. It's basically taking an animal that's anatomically identical to it's real thing. The only difference is that they have a human intelligence and speak through telepathy. It just feels like cheating the whole "beastiality" rule i guess. Of course technically Feral Furries do the same...
In my opinion, shapeshifters are neither humans nor animals but mythological/fantasy creatures. So I don't see quite a difference between them and orcs or sth.
But well, appearance would be the same from time to time, of course.
It really depends on the 'how' I suppose. It's one thing to have magical powers like say...a Druid and be able to shapeshift into an animal. It's another thing if it's a piece of technology that turns you into animals. I suppose ultimately though the only difference there is between Fiction and Science Fiction.
