'Ow,' Jack said, as Alexandra pinched him, 'Thanks.' He chuckled, 'Good night, Alexandra,' Jack put his arm around his former teacher, not believing his luck. For the first time, he actually thought the discovery of his strange powers were a benefit, not a hazard. He drifted off to sleep, basking in the warmth of Alexandra's body against his.

Morning light rolls in shining on their faces, but that's not what alerts them awake. There's a soft, but firm knocking against the door.

Alexandra gets up, pulling on some clothes, and going to the door. She opens it slightly, looking at the person on the other side.

From the kitchen, Alexandra catches the scent of toast and bacon cooking, the sizzling of a frying pan as Laya glances over to notice her having got up. “I thought I’d get started on breakfast, didn’t want to wake you two, sorry.” Laya had her bottoms on, but was shirtless and only covered above the waist by her bra. Apparently, she didn’t have much trouble making herself at home in other people’s places. Hearing the knocking at the door, she is about to move to it, but sees Alexandra head towards it, going back to tending the frying pan and staying out of sight, half dressed as Alexandra slightly opened the door.

“Excuse me. Is this the apartment of Mrs.Kinley?” The question came from a tall pale woman. The minute the voice was heard, Laya stood perfectly still, the shockwave of how stunned she was coming...but it was all Alexandra felt. This woman..it wasn’t just muted emotions. It was just this kind of fog that washed over everything else, so heavy that trying to get a sense of what this woman was feeling, was impossible.

“I’m detective Juliana Brigs. Is this a bad time? I understand you just got out of the hospital. Are you feeling alright? If possible, I’d like to ask some questions about your recent stay there.”

Alexandra furrows her brow. "Um, sure. Let's talk in the hall." She steps out and closes the door behind her. "What questions?"

“No problem, I will try to be quick, I promise.” The pale woman stepped away from the door and allowed Alexandra to step out. She held a very slight smile. Not overly friendly, but not rude or sarcastic in anyway.

“It’s a little complicated. First, I’d like to hear everything that happened yesterday from the beginning, just so we have can hear the story in your own words without me putting any in your mouth. Tell me everything you remember.”

"Well, um, First thing I remember, I woke up in the hospital. It turned out that there was nothing wrong with me, so I signed myself out. After that, the doctor left early, so I invited her to come with me for a drink. We also saw a former student of mine, so he came along with us as well. Afterwards, they stayed the night over here. That's basically it." She smiles.

Brig's smile didn't really change, though it did tense for a second before steadying back to normal. Getting out a small black book that she opened and began to read. "The doctor who gave you the release forms was Laya Mason, correct? Brown hair? Young? Nice, but a little off in her own world?"

"Yes. That's her." Alexandra nods. "Can I ask what this is about? Everything yesterday seemed normal."

“Normal. You’re not the first person who said that. And I don’t fully agree. There was nothing strange about your stay? Nothing at all?” Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out her own phone and quickly swiped to bring up an image of the glass that flooded the hallway from Abel’s murder attempt.

“You left around when the hospital alarm went off and they evacuated, correct? So...for a normal day, the alarm goes off forcing people out for no particular reason...and it just so happens on the same floor as the one you were staying on had piles of shattered glass, as well as a trail of blood coming your room...and perhaps, I’m just misunderstanding, but that’s all a perfectly ordinary day to you? Nothing worth mentioning?”

While Brigs was pressing Alexandra, the teacher realized the blood she was talking about was referring to where Laya had been cut, but it was hard to tell if she actually knew who it belonged to.

Not missing a beat, Alexandra smiles. "Honestly, we do so many drills at the school where I work... Fire drills, bomb drills, flood drills, active shooter drills. Evacuating seems pretty ordinary to me at this point. Now that you mention it, it's pretty weird. Laya cut herself, but I wasn't aware the bleeding was that bad. She seems fine now, though, so I forgot about it."

“Right..” While not fully accepting the answer, it didn’t seem like she could come up with any real way to prove that Alexandra wasn’t sharing everything.

“I only have a few more things I want to waste your time with...” She flipped to another pic that looked to be recovered from the entrance hallway camera, showing the whole group standing there prior to evacuation.

“The man and woman you spoke with. Gabriel Knights and Maya Summers. They approached you and spoke with you, would it be wrong to say that you know them? What exactly did they say to you before you left and do you know where they went after they left the hospital?”

Fake names aside, the picture was unmistakably Adel and Abel, and the detective’s voice couldn’t mask that she wanted to know more.

"Those guys? They own a bar. They overheard us talking about getting a drink, so they gave us their card."

The woman gave a half annoyed and satisfiesed smile. “Is that all you talked about?” The question was more to herself that anybody, before reasserting her gaze against Alexandra.

“Do you still have the card or remember the address?”

Alexandra shakes her head. "Sorry. I think I threw out the card when we reached the bar, and I'm not exactly sure where it is." She gives the name of the neighbourhood.

Jack got dressed and followed the smell of food into the kitchen, he yawned, 'Uaw~, hi Laya, that smells delicious.'

Making a note of the neighbourhood, she gives a nod. “I can work the rest out from there, thank you. Now, if they have you one of their cards, how about I give you one of mine if you remember anything else?”

She didn’t wait for a yes or no answer before sliding one between Alexandra’s fingers. It looked simple enough but...was this card...wet? Not only that, it gave the same kind of emotional haze as the woman. Whatever the case, she gad already turned around to walk away.

    “Thank you for your time.”

"No problem." Alexandra heads back inside, sniffing the card to try and determine what's on it. Afterwards, she leaves it on her table, going up to Laya to have breakfast. "Thanks Laya."

“I just thought it would be nice for some proper food before we go our separate ways. Well...you know where I’ll be, but it’s not like we can stay bunched up together forever...not that I’d mind trying.” Her good mood dissolved a bit as she heard the buzzing come from her pant pocket, pulling it out looking more annoyed at this point than anything. “Can’t these assholes at least wait until we’ve woken up?”

Today, the first person you should speak to is the Sadek and it’s brothers.

“First...but that lady..she was the same cop lady from the hospital.” Laya wasn’t sure what to make of the latest one, but looking close to having an idea. “Does it not know she exists? Is it possible for someone to exist outside of the system?”

“...I don’t think you told her everything...I know why, you can’t...just is that really okay? To lie to the police?” Laya was definitely uncertain despite the clear understanding of how impossible explaining any of these things would be.

"What was I supposed to say? That I got glass dropped on me through an interdimensional portal? This apartment isn't great, but it's better than a padded cell, or possibly worse if it becomes known that I have powers. Besides, there was something off about that cop. I couldn't get a read on her emotions at all."

Alexandra looks at the text. "Sadek? It's? Is this something we've heard of that I missed, because that lights no bulbs for me." She puts a hand on her chin. "It does sound vaguely Mesopotamian, or maybe Assyrian. Maybe it's something historical." She thinks back, trying to remember anything from her recent experiences or historical studies that relates to the name Sadek.
