She looks at him. "Yes, Jack I can hear you. I don't suppose you have any idea what's going on?" Her voice involuntarily becomes stern, but warm and caring, the same voice she uses to speak to students in the classroom. Apparently old habits die hard.
Dr. Cho turns to Dr. Mason “We have more serious matters at stake then your evaluation of my health or your peanut butter phobia. I’m going to sound the alarm, it appears we have a serious threat to our hospital that is about to occur.” He steps out before she can respond or think about his actions. He locates the nearest fire alarm breaking the glass bottom corner and flipping the switch. Studying the level he seeks the voices that were making threats he runs toward the faint sounds of calm plan b procedures while others around him are in full panic by the surprise alarm. Nurses and other doctors are directing patients and visitors to the nearest exits away from the elevators which do not work during emergencies. Heading to the staircase while others are heading downstairs he hears the voices of threats going upward. He heads in that direction to find and hopefully foil their plan. If only he could manipulate their thoughts instead of reading them. Stopping for a moment between opening the door where the bad men are located he lets his mind go into theirs and tries to change their minds of blowing up the hospital. Stop! Do what I’m say! You will end these plans and turn yourself in. Explain everything that went into the plan. End this nightmare. He collapses on to his knees feeling a loss of energy. His stomach rumbles and his mouth is dry. He feels weak. His eyes grow heavy before he blacks out once more.
So people really can hear me think? Damn, I'll have to work on who can hear me... and what I'm blurting out in my head, Jack thought, giving his old teacher a smile and continued vocally, 'Not entirely sure, Ms McKinney. I think someone paid these two assassins to kill us because we have these powers... and there's that third person sending messages telling me to stand up to them.'
Making sure that no civilians can see, Alexandra uses telekinesis to hand Jack the scalpel from earlier. "I don't feel good about giving you a weapon, but if these people want us dead, I don't see what else I can do".
Oh, so that is her power? Pretty cool, Jack gladly took the scalpel, Not sure it will help much against them, though. He laughed nervously, 'Maybe we can talk them out of it?'
"I doubt it, but we can try". The teacher turns to the pair of murderers. "Listen, we can sort this out without any violence, okay? It's not worth the money".
@Tjf @unisol_gr44 The man smiles for a second and Alexandra can tell that it's surprisingly genuine at hearing her response to words Jack didn't actually say. "You picked that up faster than I thought. Good for you. See, this is why I'd rather just leave you alone. You seem like a good kid and all. but come on. You can't fight the Consensus." He waited for some acknowledgment from the two apparently expecting them to agree, when he realized that they didn't know what he was talking about, his face shifted towards looking genuinely surprised. "What? They've never sent you messages yet?" Staring towards Alexandra, he felt the need to make his case by displaying the screen on his phone. Regret nothing. No one is truly worthy of salvation. We cannot tell you what to do. But if we could, we'd say to only get rid of one. "So, yeah....I'm still kind of debating on which one that should be." He stared at the doctor for a second, returning to his cold smile. "Doctors are helpful to society at whole. I see no reason that has to be you, other than you're just getting in the way." If he meant to be persuasive, it didn't work since Laya's feet became more firmly planted. "Why kill people at all? Because a text message told you to?" "I want understanding. The Consensus helps people make the best decisions. If it means two of you can be spared for the price of one, is that really so bad?" For all his attempts to try and be convincing, it fell flat. There was some more silence as he paused, apparently the woman content to just let him do the speaking for the both of them. "Maybe if- The sounds of alarms starting to blare had made him jump from the sudden sound. It caused his partner to quirk her head up to look at the new source of the commotion, apparently not caused by them. The result was both of them looking away and failing to notice the scalpel being delivered into Jack's hand. Any opportunity to use it though was cut short by the sudden crowd of people being ushered to the closest entrance. The red head stared off against a wall as if looking at something, before turning to the other. "So another one? What? Jesus. How many can seriously be in one- "No clue." The guy gave a sigh, and gave the impression of thinking about something said in a voice that nobody around him could hear. "Yeah, see. A lot of people don't particularly want us to do our jobs, but...." With the amount of people swarming now and the other doctors ushering him out of the entrance area, Alexandra felt his emotions tense up. They didn't grasp what was going on and ushered the whole group out into the safe area, the closest doctor telling Laya to keep a watch on them. It left things in an odd position, with them trapped in a fairly large open space with a massive crowd murmuring and discussing among themselves. Too public for them to actually act directly, confined to just being left unable to do much, but both of them still somewhat watching, expecting one of their targets to try running at any second. "No way.." The red haired woman shook her head mumbling something to herself. "I call bullshit. You aren't going to tell me there's anyway he saw this coming. No fucking way." Her partner had the same kind of perplexed look, but he actually smiled a little, looking pleasantly surprised. "I'm going to go out on a limb here....he probably meant for this to happen." He quickly frowned. "Not that I really get the point of it. We still have to pick one." @mindtheMILF Dr.Cho being unconscious the entire time, didn't see everything unfold or how he unwittingly had more impact on things that he thought. Laya had naturally went after him to find him collapsed on the ground, but unable to really interact with things too well with a projection, she was forced to flag a few co-workers down. He didn't feel himself being carried outside by the other doctors, moving him away from the potential danger area, but also away from the crowd of patients, examining him and trying to determine his condition while the emergency services had arrived to survey the scene. They managed to confirm that he was breathing, but couldn't be sure of the cause of his sudden collapse. Laya tried getting across, but was constantly fumbling over her words, still concerned about the potential for her actual body being harmed or somebody being killed. Torn between trying to monitor things and deal with that, it divided her focus, but she managed explaining enough so they got him comfortable while he still layed unconscious.
@Auraicide @Tjf It seemed Jack slowly got the hang of his telepathic power, his thoughts were his own again unless he wanted to share them. Though some emotional event could probably disrupt his tenuous hold on that. He hid the scalpel as the orderlies and doctor brought them to an assembly area during the alarm. With the two assassins unable to act with the crowd nearby, he went past them to stand next to Ms McKinney. He whispered to, '"Consensus"? What are they on about?' He concentrated his thoughts to talk to Alexandra mentally, The woman can create fire with her mind, be careful. Not sure what his powers are.
@Auraicide “Layla?” Steve repeats a few times softly trying to get her attention. He kept hearing her name through reading her mind. She seemed concerned about the chaos going around him. He couldn’t understand what was happening, but he knew he needed to regain some strength soon.
"Not a clue. Maybe the Consensus is the name of the person or organisation that hired them? They seem distracted now. Should we leave or stay?"
Looks like they don't want any witnesses, Jack thought to Alexandra, If we run now they might just try to catch us alone again.
"Um..please..try not to struggle. You passed out. It looks like you woke up too early....it looks like...I don't know." Laya had debated what do with him, but bent low to lightly place a hand on his shoulder. A little too close, maybe, but she was too strained with everything going on to try and think of the best practice. "Try not to worry about anything right now. You won't be good to anyone if you just hurt yourself.... but I don't know what to do about.." She paused, gently adjusting Dr.Cho's chin so he could take a look at the crowded area. It's not fair. Even if I just pick one...and leave the rest alone? Is that really okay? ...but the Consensus can't lie...god dam. "Just don't kill me."....if only I could. He wasn't quite aware of everything happening yet, but his sixth sense still worked to link the masculine voice with a cleanly dressed man who was standing a little outside of the crowd of other people. "Does family hold you back?" For fuck's sake...why do I get the hard ones? It was hard to pin down. Everyone in the crowd was full of thoughts, but somehow these two were speaking "louder" than the rest. The red haired woman in casual clothes was getting into an argument about lighting up a smoke in front of the crowd, but then...close to the rest...he could see...Laya. She was standing right here. And also wasn't. But both versions were staring in his direction with concern. So...I got a theory. You can hear thoughts. This might be a little hard to grasp and a lot to unload...but there are people with psychic powers other than you. I thought I was the only who had them..but I guess not. Now, we got other people trying to kill the other people..and I can't helpandIdon'thaveanyideawhattodo- Her thoughts were starting to rush faster and fast, almost sounding like she was holding back tears of frustration and panic.
"Well, yeah. It's not like we can just let it all go." The guy spoke calmly, apparently having caught Jack's thoughts again. It was obviously going to still be a while to get a total hang of making sure only certain people could hear what he wanted to him here. The man gave a look to both of them, and Alexandra could feel a certain sense of being conflicted building. She got the sense he was perfectly willing to kill people...but also kind of had a disdain for this as whole. "I'm only interested in getting rid of what actually needs to go. The boss doesn't make mistakes....maybe..." The internal conflict was brewing and the girl was mirroring the same thoughts....he resorted to give a smile of disbelief about something, shaking his head, reaching in his coat to grab...a business card and offer it to each of them. "Honestly, I don't know why he'd send us if all he wanted to do was just fuck with some people...but he said, if we can't manage to do what we're paid for.....we should give you a card with our bar's address...."Please, use the second trash can, to throw this out instead of the first one you see."....is what he said." He was obviously still debating what his own instructions were and the red haired woman let out a defeated sigh, like this whole thing was inevitable. "So..my bro there is Abel, and I'm Adel. Our parents were clever like that....look, we aren't just going to burn down the hospital or kill everybody to get to one person. We're only going to take out a person if we know for a fact, we're supposed to...but it's fucking weird. Consensus says someone has to go and the boss basically said even if I got the chance to, I wouldn't seriously do it...I mean, it's not my first job. I don't know why he thought this would be different....but if he wants you alive...he's going against the Consensus, which is just idiotic..." She let out another sigh, ranting about things that were barely put in perspective for their apparent target-not targets. "I don't fucking know."
Alexandra speaks to the two of them. "Look, you two seem almost as confused as us. We don't know what's going on, who the Consensus is, who your boss is. If you're not sure whether to kill us or not, maybe we should all just go home."
Take ten deep breathes and listen to what is going to happen. He waits for her as he begins to readjust himself to a siting up posture. He begins to see the world clearer. “First your going to tell me what has happened and then your going to head to the cafeteria or the nearest vending machine and get me some food. Then and only then can we move forward.” He lifts both arms out and up to stretch before collapsing on the pillow of the hospital patient bed. He begins to listen to her calmly explain the past events.
@Tjf @unisol_gr44 "One thing at a time, god." The woman who had introduced herself as Adel was more visibly irritated than the man she called her brother. The literal fiery redhead looked more impatient and frustrated than the people she was tasked with killing. She reached for her pack of smokes only for Abel to intercept. "Jesus. It hasn't even been ten minutes." The scolding was definitely odd to see, especially with how his emotions felt more visible and genuine. A more mature sibling trying to straighten out a younger one. While she flashed him a sour look about it, she put it away and took a look to the teacher who may or may not still have been on their or someone else's hitlist. "I don't think the Consensus is a person. The thing I keep hearing is it's kind of like the collective thoughts gathered by us, so it's....what the hell would you call it? A compass?.....but, you know...everyone just kinda goes along with whatever it tells them. It never steered me wrong anyway." Adel shrugged, which caused her brother to shake his head in return, giving half a smile. "Nah. I mean, that could be possible, but I always figured it was some kind of A.I. that goes on for a sorting algorithm for these types of things....probably made by some top secret government thing or something....it also might just be the boss trying to fuck with people. He likes to do that." The sudden silence in Abel's voice along with the look of total agreement from Adel seemed like a mixed reaction. What Alexandra could gather was a little complicated. They both felt impressed and inspired by mentioning the boss, but also barely able to mask their frustration and annoyance, the implications being this was far from the first time they were told to do something with little grasp on what they should be doing. Abel stared at one of the business cards, and even without reading his emotions, he was clearly doubtful about it. "Honestly, I don't think even the boss knows what exactly goes on in his head...but the thing is...he knows everything." The words kicked up a spark again, jogging the memory of when Jack and Alexandra had heard it before. Without properly meeting him or asking, it was almost immediately apparent that he was the one calling the shots. The one who seemed barely concerned about any actions opposing him or whatever his group stood for and the fact he already claimed they pair would ultimately fail in their goal to kill the fairly new psychics. There was also just the vibe he gave off on his own..a bizarre kind of warmness that radiated like the sun...but also a sharp feeling like even as a faded memory his eyes were still digging and burning into their skin. They didn't need to encounter him directly to realize that whoever or what he was exactly, his power was definitely real. "Can you go?..I guess...there isn't much more to do here..." Abel had appointed himself to making the decision for himself and his sister, taking a moment to look at his phone again, and reading something from this apparently all knowing guiding source before putting it away. "Well...the answer is, sort of. You can go. Do whatever you want...but you know, that now that your presence is confirmed, nobody is ever going to leave you alone even if it's not us? Your best bet is to pick a side....and yes. Ours is the winning one. We've taken a few hits, but when the smoke clears, we're still going to be here, alive and kicking....supposedly, I should help fix that broken light bulb in your apartment...but I don't think either of us want to drag this out more than we have to. One day of going against the machine's orders shouldn't really hurt anything, I think." What was becoming a massive habit brought on by these strange people, included the fact that Alexandra's place was in perfectly working order when she stepped out. Abel simply gestured to the card he handed to her. "If you want to see what we're all about, take a look at the card." "Ugh...what the hell?" Adel had finished checking her phone, apparently not impressed with what she sees. Putting it back away, she approached Jack. "Alright. So look..." Clearing her throat, she tried to drop the more casual way of speaking she had, apparently not able to make proper eye contact, the thing she was supposed to ask actually fazing her. "It's weird and all, with the fact I just tried to burn you and everything...but I need to keep you alive. So whatever you do, I guess I'm tagging along until they call me to do something else." The moment she made the assertion, Abel immediately cast his gaze at her, and sent an actually intentionally terrifying one into Jack's direction, the young adult catching a lucky break since it seemed killing people with stares, apparently wasn't one of his powers. Not for a lack of trying.
@Auraicide @Tjf Jack was very confused as they talked, not sure who their boss was or why "the Consensus" was followed like it's gospel, Seems like they're just as confused as me at what's going on... at least they aren't trying to kill us again... for now. The teenager looked at the card, as Abel suggested it to Alexandra and was surprised when Adel approached him. He made a step back, fearful she might've changed her mind about letting them go. 'Wait? Keep me alive? Tag along?' Jack repeated, 'Uh-Uh, I'm not born yesterday... you're just playing nice to whack me when you get me alone, right?' He noticed Abel staring at them too, 'And your brother's not cool with that either.'
@Auraicide Alexandra nods at Jack's words. "Exactly. Look, you two were trying to murder us five minutes ago. Stay away." @unisol_gr44 She turns to Jack and the doctor. "Come on, let's get out of here."
“Tch. Just about everyone is going to try to kill you at some point. You’re being way too sensitive.” It wasn’t clear even by emotionally reading her if she only wanted to be helpful now because she had been told, but she still walked away. “We’re going to end up having to put up with each other a lot....but, yeah. This is all still new to you.” “Enemies on the battlefield today....enemies smiling to other’s faces tomorrow.” Abel’s expression wasn’t the typical saying, shutting his eyes for a second, looking a lot less concerned about leaving the two. “I still don’t think you guys really get it. But you can’t, right? Just figure you’ll head back to your normal lives, and maybe if you just ask the boogeyman nicely, they’ll go away?” His tone had shifted from calm to sarcastic, but did little else to actually stop them. “Suit yourself.” The pair already started to walk off with the emergency situation concluded, apparently not wanting to be around them anymore than they did. That just left the remaining psychic, the doctor woman to stare. “...so....what now? Do I just go back to work? Are they just going to leave us alone from now on? They keep making it sound like they don’t have a choice...but they do, right? They’re the ones choosing to accept the job.”
Will he listen at all? Why’s he so stubborn? Those creepy people are going away, at least...for now. Did they not bother witb him? Did they not know he had powers too? His seem pretty draining...mmm, guess he’s still exhausted and his body doesn’t have nutrients. He never looked that delicate... Her internal thoughts weren’t hidden from him, although all her face had was a strained polite smile, feeling like he wasn’t properly listening. She stepped out for a few moments, and while he had hoped for something good, she had apparently taken some of the hospital food prepared by the nurses in advance and placed it on a tray. “You know that you can’t just eat anything. Your body is weak. It needs proper nutrients.”
