Biggest turn offs?

I have to agree with the last part. There is apparently enough people into diaper things to make it a thing...but..that crosses my personal, seemingly very arbitrary, lines.

I don't like cuckold stories, either. They just make me feel depressed and kind of sad instead of aroused.

2nd person perspective. Can’t read it. Which sucks as their are some amazing writers who write in it.

    That's a big assumption.
    I find bestiality quite hot.

This should really stick to dramatic techniques and stay out of the kink shaming realm.

You do understand that you are talking about a significant portion of population?

I am disgusted by bestiality but the only reason why there should be no bestiality on the site is because bestiality porn is ILLEGAL (in most places) not because me or someone else finds that disgusting.

Of course I know that you are you and you think the same about people with rape or incest fantasies... but really... watch your words, please.

This is just a spiral, since the same could be said of pedophilia. And people in danger of acting on *those* sort of feelings should definitely seek help.

I'm not worried about Nemo's assertion.
I knew exactly what I was doing when I pointed out he was overreaching in his assumption.
He's not going after a newbie who needs a welcome.

There's no reason to go down the rabbit hole. We're all good, here.

It's true, he baited me but good.

Still, the point stands, lines must be drawn, and the majority of you draw them far more loosely than you really ought to. Now, I may disagree with that opinion, and argue against it, but I defend your right to have it, even if you're wrong: as long as you do the same for mine.

  10. I relate to and also don't relate to lots of other people's preferences here! For my part one major turn off / annoyance that's been mentioned a bit would be oversized penises and boobs.. I think on the penises because it destroys a lot of realism for me which I find hard to ignore ('no that wouldn't fit actually...', 'fucking her cervix sounds more internally damaging than pleasant... :S' ), and then boobs I guess I just prefer smaller boobs - obviously a range of both things is fine and good, but when every guy in a story is 10 plus inches, and every girl is a double G, it usually stops me reading.

Also to hold a counter opinion to some people I usually quite like at least one character picture when they're there - not because I don't like imagining them myself, but because I think it stops later authors randomly changing what the characters look like (e.g. female's gaining several bra sizes from one chapter to the next)

I agree with this. For the most part, I find 'perfect people' rather tiresome. At least giving the character one flaw makes the character fall into the realm of believability (even if only a little). It doesn't even have to be physical either. For example, if you at least make a godly looking person who's dynamite in the sack have a somewhat toxic personality (especially with the main character), the story becomes a lot more interesting, with added conflict and believability.

I also find it annoying when a character is supposedly a nerd/virgin/shy, but when they and their partner hit the bed, they become the best lover in the world. I get CHYOA is an erotica site and wish fulfillment comes with the territory, but again, it can add so much more when the character has to overcome something and improve on themselves.

Descriptions that read like police lineups are an instant 'skip' for me. If your character descriptions reads as: she has long red hair, 5'5 feet tall, has DD breasts and a 34 inch waist, it needs to go. (Unless a police line-up or other sort of clinical description fits the story.)

Then that can be part of a Writer's Notes chapter but not within the story itself. Or even adding external links to the Story guidelines.

We agree, it's something I strive for in all of my characters. Malcolm is probably the only character I've done so far who'd trip the "Smart, Rich, Romantic, Ripped, Hung." perfect-detector, but i'd just say that was the gimmick I was going for, sneaking a observably absurd romantic storyline into a BBC fetish quick-fuck story and even then I think I wrote him just neurotically enough to show he's a total dweeb at heart.

Again, nail-head. But the limitations of time and the not-funness of reading a girl go... "Oww! Stop! Why do guys like this! Men are fucking pigs! I told you to stop! Oh, you came! Thank god that's over!" for a whole chapter kills the mood. You've gotta fold time-and-space sometimes and just get to the fun.

That's why the girls always stop at the horse dildo at the sex shop and cream themselves, and arguably the most popular piece of interactive fiction on the internet is Corruption of Champions... Nobody likes fucking animals though.

I'm guilty of some heinous continuity errors myself. And it drives me just as crazy.(I had to invent a basement on the current SotW to get around a pretty big one.) This is just one of the concessions to writing as a group.

Like I said it's fine for that reason, separated from the story. (It would also be good to keep more records of the characters, even when working alone on a story.)
The thing is that pictures within the story are often an excuse to skip the description of the characters entirely.

I definitely can understand an author avoiding bad/painful sex (kinks notwithstanding), but sometimes it can be interesting when things aren't 'perfect'. For example, one of my chapters in 'School Drop Off' (Shameless plug: https://chyoa.com/chapter/Fucking-Cindy-in-the-classroom.479178) has the protagonist cum before the woman he's with can have her own climax, causing her to ride him a little longer, despite the discomfort that causes. In my (admittedly biased) opinion, the scene is still hot, but feels a little more real compared to them having an in synced orgasm.

Then again, there's nothing wrong with 'perfect' sex scenes, just a matter of preference.

Well, such things can even add some value.
It can say something about the characters... the guy could just stop and wipe his cock at the disappointed girl... or he could try hard to stay hard and finish her as well.
Or it can cause another hot scene as the girl isn't satisfied yet and tries to make him hard again.

I'm a tit guy, and I like big ones... and if not for self-imposed restrictions, I admit I would probably have every female character in my stories on the high side of DD.

But in my most recent story, that got dialed back a bit. I decided to use photo illustrations, and since the setting was 14th century Europe, I was limited to pics where the models could be from that time era. Actually, it's almost impossible to find photos where they would genuinely be from that age; explicit images of women who don't wear makeup or shave their legs are not exactly a popular fetish, and in any event I wasn't trying to be hyper-realistic. But, I wanted them to at least look the part for a Hollywood B-movie set in pre-Rennaisance times; which meant avoiding modern cosmetics and hairstyles, most varieties of lingerie, big jewelry, and obviously-enhanced breasts. A lot of my characters who might have had bigger racks ended up in the A- or B-cup range, because those were the usable pictures I could find.

I'm not trying to re-ignite the Great Illustration Debate here; the same could be true if I didn't actually put the pictures in the story, but just used them for inspiration. But I think I made my writing accidentally better through that restriction.
