**Apologies for necroposting** Does anyone know the cadence that SmutMD updates? Enjoyed checking the word counts, but I don't think it has updated in months for my story.
Additional question why do these search engines not support exact word search with quotation marks? For example looking for “Mind Control” gives same results for Mind Control without quotes.
As far as I know, it gets updated once a week. CHYOA doesn't have a stat for word count, so I think it is just an estimated number. Both terms seem to return a different number of results: mind control -> 322,209 stories "mind control" -> 8,262 stories If you sort by "Most Recent," there will be a difference.
@gene.sis: Thanks for the reply. None of the stats for my story have updated for months, despite active writing. Maybe there's a bug. Are there any plans to add word count functionality to CHYOA? @Zekar: Quotes definitely matter in SmutMD search.
Quotation marks in search engines like SmutMD define the string. So searching 'mind control' (no quotes) reveals every story/chapter with the words mind and control in it, regardless of where they are situated with respect to each other; "mind control" (with quotes) reveals only those stories with the exact phrase in it.
Not sure why that would happen. Maybe @Friedman can say something about that. There are suggestions about word counts - Word Counter (Story/Chapter Statistics) - Word Counter (Information For Writers) If you like a suggestion, vote for it by liking the first chapter. you can also use other operators for "Boolean Full-Text Searches" Code: + - < > ( ) ~ * "" (There is currently no description about them in the CHYOA Guide, though it might be useful to provide a manual for the operators.)
SmutMD works out word count at 200 words per chapter of the story. A pretty conservative underestimate in most cases. Mine hasn't updated in over a month I'm guessing too.
