don't get me wrong, it's really dumb that they're moderating private stories because that means that they are looking at stories that are meant to be private and acting as if they're out there for the public to see. However, looking at their ban for NSFW content doesn't seem horribly unreasonable. Spoiler Any sexual content involving individuals under 18 years old fictional or otherwise (see Sexual content involving minors for more information) Nonconsensual pornography (any sexually explicit material featuring an individual who has not expressed fully informed consent to such material being posted and shared, or who has since revoked their initial consent) Necrophilia Bestiality Sex trafficking Content that is obscene or illegal under applicable local law They also have a separate ban for extreme violence and gore and NSFW stories have to be marked as NSFW. This isn't a too unreasonable set of guidelines for any public NSFW site. The second one did give me pause, but after looking at it and reading it multiple times, I don't think that it means that all nonconsensual content is banned. Despite the fact that Rape has been a censored word on the site since the beginning(It also almost assuredly triggers the automatic flagging). The way that it's worded suggests that it has nothing to do with nonconsensual encounters with fictional characters. The fact that it talks about "consent" to NSFW content "being posted and shared" implies that it is in reference to nonconsensual encounters with real people. AKA: Real-life Rape Fantasies or posting a private erotic multiplayer encounter without the other player's consent. These are technically banned on chyoa as well as stories depicting real events aren't to be posted either. With that said, I fully expect overzealous moderators will take that as "all noncon content is banned" which is not technically how it's worded, but I've seen people make less reasonable stretches. Of course, Bestiality and Child Porn are banned for obvious reasons...Although I don't really expect Latitude's "trained" moderators to be able to tell the difference between bestiality and some of the more extreme forms of furry porn. Sex trafficking is...eh? Yeah, I guess I get why considering how much of a hot button topic it's been in recent years. Necrophilia seems very specific... I feel like a lot of people are probably going "I kill it and fuck its corpse" and the neural net is learning that and doing it to the player. This brings up another point, I think a lot of these rules are being put into place to protect their neural net from more depraved things leaking into other peoples' games. It's why they opted to moderate private stories when there isn't really any other reason to. Now they could just set it up so that the AI doesn't learn from private stories or make it ignore NSFW content, but I guess they figured that they would lose too much other perfectly reasonable content by doing so since most stories on the site probably are never published and remain so. Anyway, I've all but stopped using AI dungeon for adult content. The AI just doesn't really do 18+ content very well.
@mekros The stuff you quoted looks reasonable in a vacuum but it isn't in a vacuum. (BTW you misunderstood the nonconsensual stuff, it is about not writing porn starring Emma Watson without her permission) The whole idea for being suspended because you (or AI) wrote about infantry thrusting into enemy lines and wait few days for human moderator to check your stuff and unsuspend you is beyond stupid. The funniest part that not only you have no access to the service you paid for because of some crude automated banning system, but you also can't even unsubscribe while being suspended Also, their anti-violence rules are way less reasonable. You kinda can't play evil characters anymore. Latitude does not allow content that incites hatred or violence offline, including content encouraging, supporting, glorifying, or trivializing: Terrorism Violent extremist actors and/or acts Hate groups and/or hate group membership Terrorist or extremist propaganda Gore and other obscene content Violence against others (see Harassment) So nothing GTA level or above. Oh, and it does ban any violent forms of non-con because one can always say that it promotes or trivializes rape. Also, other obscene content is beyond vague No, this kind of AI isn't trained on user's input. AI does tend to do this but it is because it trained on the Internet and finetuned on some... rather kinky stuff. Also, if this is a problem, use their filters to exclude such stuff from the training data. The paid version used to be kinda good. Not to the point that you don't need to retry or alter some outputs but very usable.
I don't the rules are too unreasonable, especially for a service that isn't dedicated to adult content, but it's true that AI moderation is highly ineffective. It also sounds like their mods won't be trained very well on the nuances on the borderline of such content. I think CHYOA is fortunate to not require AI moderation, I guess thanks to our size. It's been a while since I played AI dungeon, but I do remember getting sick of every action ending in me pissing myself.
Not really misunderstand so much as a missed example. The point is "No real-life things." That goes for people, experiences, or interactions. I mean, if the auto-moderation is that stupid that it doesn't take syntax and spacing into account, then fair.....But also what you're describing is the same for any service that you pay for. If you pay for it and violate their policy and terms, then you get banned from using the service. Being a paying customer doesn't mean that you're free to do whatever you want. Being unable to unsubscribe if you've already paid for that month makes sense because you already paid for that month. However, if it kept charging you and prevented you from unsubscribing, then I expect that's an oversight that'll last until the first subscriber gets perma-banned and they get threatened with a lawsuit. It says nothing of the sort. Why? It's simple. The answer is right...here. Latitude does not allow content that incites hatred or violence offline, including content encouraging, supporting, glorifying, or trivializing: You can be as terrible of a person as you want as long as you aren't trying to convince people to go blow up the White House (Hello FBI) or something in real life. Again, the point is "No real-life things." Of course it is. It's not unusual for a large, public project like AI Dungeon to include a line in their ToS that they can fall back on as a catch-all term for things they just didn't think about in the rules or a term they can use to get rid of distasteful people or new things that become problematic. The technique is used even in real-life contracts to cover peoples' asses in case someone gets sued. It's pure legal asininity.
