Jack stood from his seat and started to say what he learned in class, ‘Radiation is the particles and electromagnetic rays emitted from the decay of radioactive isotopes. There are three kinds of radiation: alpha, which is made up from helium nuclei; beta, which is made up from electrons; and gamma, which is high-energy electromagnetic rays. The interaction of these particles or rays with other matter causes the atoms of said matter to be ionised, possibly breaking bonds and other reactions, and thus damaging biological tissues and processes. Alpha radiation is the most dangerous, but also the most easily protected against. It is most devestating when an alpha-emitting object is ingested or otherwise enters the body. Beta is less damaging but needs better protections, like a pane of glass. Gamma rays can only be stopped by very dense protections like lead or concrete. With all radiation, distance is the best protection, as the intensity falls off according to an inverse-square law.’
Audrey heads to The Overseers Office to give him her Daily Report. As she enters he eats Instant Noodles with sauce. He wipes his Mouth and stops as She enters. “Richards....You have to Report something?“
The Teacher looks at The Class. “Today we talk about History. A distant one. The Pre War. Any Eager Questions?“
The Teacher shooks his Head. “No its a Topic I have to go trough before You all graduate. Its Protocoll. Any Questions?“
One raises his Hand. “Can we ever leave The Vault? What would we find?“ The Teacher stays silent for a brief Moment. “If we would unseal The Vault we would Die by either One of The Radiation Types or Contaminate Our Body and suffer terrible diseases until we die from them. The World and everything on it was Destroyed in The Nuclear Fire. Maybe there are others like Us....in another Vault.“
The Teacher shooks his Head “No. Like I said we wouldnt be able to survive. The Earths Atmosphere is severely damaged aswell and We wouldnt be able to Handle it.“
Jack nodded, satisfied with the answer for now, maybe he’d have to ask Phil about at some other time.
Jack packed his books and said goodbye to the teacher, leaving for his home to study for the test upon the next day.
Audrey clears her throat, "Nothing out of the ordinary, sir. But, I do fear the vaults equipment have been deteriorating as of late. We will be in trouble if none of them can be salvaged."
Audrey nods, "Very well, sir. I have nothing left to report." She salutes him, then turns around to leave.
