So, I was thinking about a role-play involving the most famous of detectives. A sad thing is while I could play it, I just don’t have the time to GM it. But still wanted to show you my concept.

    My concept is as follows.

One player is chosen as a detective, others are the participants of the act. The players create their characters, then set a net of relationships between each other (a negative grievance to each other player is a must).

From among the participants, a killer (or killers) and a victim are chosen (f.e. by GM, or volunteered by players).

Then a stage is set – a place. Each player declares to GM how he/she went about his/her day – hour for hour. Until the discovery of a murder.

Then the next stage and a real game begins – the enter of short Belgian detective.

He will interrogate the witnesses (players) who will retell their actions (it’s up to Poirot to tell if they lie) search for the clues (supplied by GM) and finish with his own grand finale.

It’s an upper class so no rough rape. Sex, sex by blackmail, sex by trickery and rough sex is okay.

    What do you think?

The concept is really great, but it would take a really dedicated GM to bring it together. The planning phase would be a real headache if you ask me.

I thought we were doing Herkules Poirot, not Sherlock Holmes... :p

All kidding aside though, I agree that this would be a difficult story to do well, and would require exceptionally dedicated players and a talented GM...

    Thank you!

Not true! Hercules said so himself!
Both men lived in different eras and used little different methods. Holmes was more about sciences and logical deduction he was also a man of action and master of disguise. Herkules was on the other hand man of logic and possessed incredible knowledge of psychology - he never took part in action he only used his intelligence to solve the case and set the trap.

Dedicated GM... do we have someone like that?

Both Hercules and Holmes can make their action good, because their autors want to get well for them. Their metods have both a lot of plot holes.
And I agree with rest: concept is great, but the task is very hard.

As I said before, I don't have the time to run it. So if anyone wants to use this idea, feel free to do so.

Another take on the idea. Instead of doing planning, how about, we write the story ourselves?

A murder took place and Poirot came to solve the case. The story would start as Hercule Poirot explains what happened.

GM would take the role of Hercule Poirot, he would explain his conclusions, throwing around accusations.

Basically, he would say that he deduced that player A and player B have done so, and so. Then the pointed players would write the scene from their point of view.

Basically, in present, Hercule Poirot would speak of his conclusions, throwing accusations, then players would describe their version of events. The game would be between the present and the past.

F.e. (an oversimplified way it would go about)

HP: I know that You, Mr Martin where that night in that room - with the victim! Have you now quarrelled with her?!

Mr. M: No! That's not how it was! (Then he and the victim describe the scene)

    (Back to present)

HP: Indeed that was it... Yet, you are laying here, because when you returned, there where three drinks on the table! From that, I conclude that you were joined shortly after, by non-other than Mrs Handworth!

Mrs Handworth: Indeed, I won't deny, that I arrived, after that slut had their way with Martin. I explained my displeasure to her. (Then she and the victim describe the scene, with maybe Martin staying around)
