Having not thought through her plan, Alvilda just got down to the river to wash her hands and face, have a drink and see if the river has any fish swimming around.

Alvilda heard a sobbing child and some strange hissing sound. Determined to help, she looked at the river and studied the current. If the current was managable, she laid down her three clubs and she stripped off her clothes. Taking one of the clubs, she dove into the water and tried to reach the other side.
If she managed to cross the river, she approached the sobbing child and watched out for whatever was making the hissing sound.
