[Wow, at first I thought the 1c was a typo on your part, then I re-read my post and realized it was on MY end...! Anyway, on with the show!]

"Oh, you're plotting something, I can tell: but I won't pry," Beatrice says with a smirk, and you feel a bit smug.

"How are you and the kids doing?" Galena asks, seemingly oblivious to the fact that you just decided her emotional state for her briefly.

"They couldn't be happier! They Look forward to Pennsic all year, and now that its here they are so excited! Every Day is something new and exciting, a new skill to learn, or game to play!" Beatrice says, practically glowing with joy at the mention of her children.

    "And Albia?" Galena asks.

"Tired, but joyful," Beatrice says. Though she's smiling it no longer reaches her eyes...

    ---

Do you try to alert your host to this fact?
    1: No.
    2: Yes.

Whether we're pretending to be helpful or truly being helpful. Making our host seem that we're being helpful will be helpful. Otherwise they might look for a way to get rid of us.

What do you want to do to try to alert her?

  5. merkros

That's a good question. Since we're limited to sending her flashes of the emotions that are part of us and Yes/No/Maybe/IDK answers...

sending her any responses might urge her to take notice. However, there's no real point in flashing any of the emotions. Flashing a 'yes' response would also not really and a 'no' response wouldn't either because we don't know what's going on.

    Let's do "Maybe" I guess?

There's no real way to know how she'll react to any non-verbal signal and we can't just say "yo dawg something aint right in da hood"

  6. Nemo of Utopia

    Nemo of Utopia CHYOA Guru

The 'Maybe' goes through and Galena looks at her friend closely...

"Beatrice, I know something's wrong, spill," Galena says, and Beatrice's smile cracks, but she recovers.

"No, everything's fine, I'm just tired from all the classes I've been taking," she lies, awkwardly.

}Thank's for the "head's up" Nori, do you think I should dig for answers?{ Galena asks.

    ---

    What's your answer?

Friends don't let friends go when something's bothering them.

    Ayep to pushing for info.

}Ayup.{ you respond, and Galena nods once, emphatic.

"Cut the bullshit Lucy, I've known you too long. There's something bad going down and I need to know what in order to know how to help." Dame Galena says using her friend's mundane name.

"..." 'Lucy' looks away, her face in shadows.

"..." Dame Galena gives her a moment.

Beatrice looks back, eyes shining with tears. "Connie's parents just died, and she wants us all to move to Wisconsin to take over the family farm!"

"Tough decision, but you'd get through that, what's got you so tied up in knots?" Galena asks.

"I already said 'no' but she's not accepting that. She says I have the rest of the war to reconsider..." Lucy seems to get a lump in her throat. "then if I haven't seen the merits of a dynasty and loyalty: she'll take me to court to get divorced...!" She cries, then just grabs your host around the neck and starts bawling into her shoulder.

}Hey, Nori, anything you can do to help here?{ Beatrice asks...

    ---

    Well?

  9. merkros

Well, there's two things we could do. We could Fire a Love Rocket. A term i'm going to use instead of Arrows, because "Love Rocket" sounds cooler. Or we could use Pickup Artist from the Lust Core.

I don't particularly think that this is the appropriate time for a Love Rocket and I don't necessarily want to tip that hand just yet.

So that pretty much leaves Pickup Artist. Now, i'm well aware that the Pickup Artist is more about seduction. However, the improved glibness and intuition may allow our host to console her friend properly anyway. If that doesn't work, or doesn't work the way that she expects, then it should be a good lesson for her that we'll try to assist when asked. It may just not be in the way she had wanted or planned. The Love Rocket may work for that too, but again I want to keep that under wraps for now.

So empowering our host with the Pickup Artist power is what I vote for.

    ...

    ...

    Seriously?

Are you really going to give your host incredibly short-lived supernatural seduction powers as a way to 'help' her deal with her friend's marriage troubles?

  11. merkros

    merkros CHYOA Guru

Here's a list of our powers:

    Strength boost
The Ability to possess an angry person
    Love Rocket
The ability to improve my host's abilities(Learn faster, exercise better, and development of supernatural talents
    Supernatural Seduction Powers.

None of those powers are anywhere near what we need(In fact only a couple of the options presented at character creation would help in this situation). She also specifically asked us for our help* and the supernatural seduction power might give her a chance to actually console her somehow. On top of that, just because she has that power doesn't mean she has to use it. There's nothing in the description of that power that says that it forces the host to seduce someone.

So what did you expect? Us to do nothing?

Perhaps I should change my decision to Love Rocket and take the choice out of both of their hands, because that's the only other power in our arsenal that might even remotely help our host solve the situation at hand(That she asked our help with!*).

*"And a lean, silent figure slowly fades into the gathering darkness, aware at last that in this world, with great power there must also come–great responsibility!" -Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962)

In all seriousness and with all honesty and with the best of intentions: You might want to reconsider this RPG if something like this is already causing you to second-guess the player(s) decisions. I'm not saying that I'm going to start voting for some stupid non-con rampages, because I know of your disdain for that sort of things.

However, there's many questionable things that can happen when you have a bunch of powers that literally fuck with peoples' minds. And many...if not most of the powers that were given as options have that sort of influence.

So if you gave me a problem and tools to solve that problem. I'm going to try to find a solution to that problem with the tools that you give me. Sans doing nothing, if I can help it.

    (HAHAHAHA!)

That WAS an option, just saying...

In any case, you've decided that Zugzwang is not something you're comfortable with, I'll try to remember that next time.

    So, on with the show!

    ---

You fill your host's mouth with honeyed words of seduction, and the silver tongue you have given her betrays what she has felt all along, but never dared say, until now.

"Lucy, this isn't right! She shouldn't be making you chose between your family and your career like this! If this is how she treats you when the chips are down I'm not sure she EVER loved you, not really!" Jessica says, then looks away and whispers, almost to herself, but your magic makes it audible to the woman on her shoulder...

"Not Like I do at least..."

"What was that?!" Lucy asks, head snapping up at the last comment.

"Nothing! Didn't say anything!" Jessica says, but it's obvious she's lying...

"Yes you did: I heard it! 'Not like I do' was that it?" Lucy asks, eyes wide.

"Gods damn it!" Jessica cries, her anger with you both feeding you and promising punishments undreamed of later... "Yes, that's what I said, I love you, I've loved you for years but didn't want to get in the way. And now... Now I've fucked it all up!" You're host cries and turns to run...

    ---

    Coin Flip...

    Tails: Lucy doesn't catch her.

    ---

Your host runs into the moonlit night, heedless of direction, tears streaming down her face and her hands wiping them away and throwing them to the side of the path where they sink into the arid dust.

}Nori-No-Kame: you daughter-of-a-whore! I asked you to HELP, not make things WORSE!{ She screams at you mentally.

However, from your perspective things are going quite swimmingly with this incident. The emotional cauldron roiling inside your host gives you the opportunity to start forming a new core... You have your choice of Fear, Sorrow, Pain, Shame, or a second Lust core!

    ---

    Chose wisely...

    Really? Laughing in all caps?

I'm sure there's other things I could use to occupy my time if you're going to be so condescending...

Of course it was..and i'm sure it's a problem with there being only one other person contributing is that I can't really be overruled for making a bad decision. However, it's not that i'm uncomfortable with not acting. It's more along the lines that I would rather act than not act to keep things interesting. If I just go "I do nothing" "I do nothing" "No i can't help with this", then you might as well go and write a story about the adventures of Jessica on the main site with no reader input.

Besides, in-character I still stand by the decision. We are a newly born sentient ball of emotions. Morality and Restraint and what is or isn't Appropriate are not things that are in our repertoire. Perhaps they could be taught later, but for now.She asked us for help. We helped. It just wasn't the way she wanted us to help. We've done nothing but try to be helpful and our powers are(currently) at her command. However she's not fully aware of our capabilities...so it shouldn't be all too surprising that it backfired. Back to the Amazing 15 Quote "With great power, there must also come–great responsibility."

Our power is a tool for her to use and that also means that using the power responsibly must also be learned. Unfortunately, sometimes that has to be done the hard way...

While it would be easy for me to grab a second lust core and avoid certain consequences for the decision. I think I'll take the fall for this one and take the Sorrow core.

Because I've had only one player responding this whole time, We've decided to split the story into two alternate parhs: in this path others can still join in, and there won't be another update until at least two people do, in the other we go on with just the two of us, though merkros is allowed to invite new people to join if they chose...

To throw this two different directions Shame core

I could go with the Shame core to split things off from the private story.

And the private story seems to have vanished... Ok... Well, that makes continuing this both (paradoxically,) harder AND easier...

    ---

You don't precisely choose, what your new core will be, the most powerful emotion welling up inside your host decides it, and, (slightly ironically,) you feel, for the first time, a new emotion: Shame. You are ashamed, of having damaged your host's relationship with her friend, and possibly destroyed her friend's marriage in the process. You feel even worse, (though this is obviously bleed over from your host, as you have not yet formed an opinion on the subject,) because the marriage you may have just destroyed was one of the few fully successful lesbian marriages of which your host was aware. This meant that it was politically important to your host, as well as personally. A new word also interpolates into your mind: "zugzwang". It is a chess term, the situation where if you had the option to NOT act, the wise decision would be to refrain from taking any action, because all potential actions at that time, would weaken your position: specifically, however, in chess it refers to the fact that this is NOT an option, though in many cases, the players wish it were. You, however, know at this moment, that this WAS an option, just a minute ago, and you instead, chose action when stillness would have been preferable. Will things work out Okay, in spite of this? Who knows? (For a certainty, neither you nor your host...)

Your host runs down the paths of the vast encampment blindly, tears streaming from her eyes and leaving little spots of mud as she passes, finally, lost beyond all hope of recognizing where she is, she falls down on a patch of grass beside the road and lays still, sobbing... It is only now that you realize that someone has been following her...

You attempt to seize control of Jessica's body, but she fights you and you only manage to make her awkwardly rise to her knees, even doing this drains a certain amount of your control over your host, costing you

    1d10 die roll: 8

Eight degrees* of control but it buys her a critical advantage. The man coming out of the woods is one you recognize, and he is not in a good state.
*(Control and binding are now percentiles, the system is still very much evolving.)

Osama Yeshua Mohamed looks very out of sorts, and unlike your host, you know why. Osama is being ridden by an incubus, a "Greater" Incubus, and a fairly powerful one. It's gained much greater control of him than you have of your own host, and unlike her, he has no Binding to counter it. You sense the LUST radiating off him: you know what the incubus plans to do: its emotional balance is much less diverse than yours, and overwhelmingly driven by Lust: it's going to rape your host, impregnate her, transfer across with that act and consume you while it gestates inside her! Already he has divested himself of his pants and his circumcised cock stands erect and pointed forward like a hideous battering ram, the tip glistening with pre.

However, your host is not going to go down without a fight! She has grabbed a fallen branch and brought it up to block her assailant!

    % Die roll: 18 < (?? + ??) = Crit Success!

Not only does she block, she connects, hard!

    2d10*10 damage: (4+5=9)x10=90.

Sending him spinning down into darkness!

Her gratitude for alerting her in time to save her returns:

    1d10 die roll: 6

Six points of control to you, meaning you have only come out two down on the encounter...

    ---

    What do you do now?

(Remember your present options: use a power, flash any emotions you have cores for, "Yes/No/Maybe/I Don't Know": or just wait and observe.)
