No worries. What’s happening is that the Rich Text (WYSIWYG) editor is enabled on your CHYOA account, and it’s escaping/rewriting the markdown when you paste it in.

To fix it, please disable the rich text editor:
  1. Open your settings:
    Click the arrow in the top-right of the header, then in the drop-down go to General Settings, or just use this link: https://chyoa.com/settings
  2. On the settings page, under the Options section, find the checkbox:
    “Use the rich text editor to create and edit chapters.”
  3. Uncheck that box, save your settings, then try posting the image again.
After that, the image markdown should render normally.
 
I think something is still wrong, or at least changed from before. If I have "Use rich text editor" checked, I can't embed images properly using the ![](url) method (as discussed in previous posts). But if I uncheck it, I can no longer use Bold, underline, or other features. It seems I have to pick, and I didn't have to before. Can you take a look?

I'm having a problem when I edit a chapter (in draft) containing variables (conditions or modifications).
The checkboxes are no longer selected, and if I save my draft, when I reopen it, the conditions and variable modifications have disappeared. I then lose my work.
If I check the checkboxes, the variables also disappear.

Update: Never mind I figured out what happened. For whatever reason, the editor on my profile page turn on the rich editor for my writing but once I turned it off it fixed the issue. Anyways. Thank you for your time and you were a big help.

Thanks everyone for the detailed reports.

I’ve pushed a fix for image support in the rich text editor. It should now be possible to embed images in the rich editor using the normal Markdown syntax, e.g.:

![](https://example.com/image.jpg)

Separately, I also fixed the issue where variable/condition checkboxes were no longer staying selected (and where saving/reopening a draft could cause conditions/modifications to disappear).

@Assguard could you please check again and confirm whether the checkboxes/variables now behave correctly when editing and saving drafts? If it’s still happening, let me know and I’ll dig deeper.

This should be fixed now. Underline should apply correctly again. Please give it another try and let me know if you still see any issues.
 
My most recent chapter that I published is behaving weird - disconnect between the published, saved, and editing appearances include missing text and unupdated changes.

Edit: There also seems to be a cutoff in the amount of text saved when going back to edit, like a character limit. Made a test Chapter for demonstrative purposes of error

  1. A link to the affected chapter (and the test chapter you made, if possible)
  2. Which view is wrong for you:
    • the published page
    • the chapter edit screen
  3. What exactly is missing / not updating (a short example is enough, e.g. “last paragraph disappears” or “edits after X point don’t persist”)

Both views are wrong as they don't seem to save changes either way. Text an any additions are what's not changing.

Strangely, I made a new chapter a few hours later and that worked fine, as did previously made drafts.

Thanks for the links!

One thing that might explain the “changes not saving” behavior: if your chapter text contains < and > symbols, the editor/viewer may be interpreting parts of the content as HTML tags, which can cause text to disappear or not render correctly.

Could you try a quick test and replace any < and > with alternatives, then save again and see if the chapter view updates properly?

If that doesn’t fix it: could you send me the exact chapter text (or at least the section that won’t stick) in a private message so I can reproduce it on my side and take a closer look?
 
I don't know if this is a bug or an intentional design choice, but I noticed that, when I logged into the main CHYOA site today and, for literally the first time ever, I visited the forum... I was not logged into the forum.

I was worried it meant that the forum used separate accounts from the main site (something that definitely is a thing on other sites), but sure enough it was actually all the same account with the same username/password and everything.

...but in that case, shouldn't logging into the main site also log you into the forum and vice-versa? Or is this something related to how the forum is a subdomain (forum.chyoa.com) and maybe this is simply how web browsers work in such a case and cannot be avoided? i.e. if the forum were located at chyoa.com/forum/ then maybe it would in fact be able to be automatically logged in?


EDIT: I just discovered that they aren't quite exactly the same account - turns out the email I used on the forum was different than the one I used on the main site. Yet when trying to change the password here on the forum, it redirects me to the main site anyway?

Thanks for pointing this out. Right now, the forum and the main site don’t automatically share the login, so you can end up logged into one but not the other.

It is possible to make it “one login for both”, but it needs a bit of extra work on my side and I haven’t implemented that yet.

I’ll keep this as a suggestion and see if we can improve it.
 
Random number generation seems to be borked. In my story, all the chapters that used random numbers (Opponent is dealt a card) seem messed up now.

"Does anyone know how the random number thing works or if it's disabled again? It says to "put an 'R' before the number" in the score change but I can not enter letters into that text box only numbers."

That's when I noticed mine have been basically stripped out of my story.
