    Two ideas for Features

    1. The ability to change a linked thread at the link level (in other words, what thread it goes go)
    2. The ability to delete threads the author put in by accident

Concerning the topic in the "Worrying Trend" thread, I think the authors should be able to opt-out of having to approve new submissions for members who reach a certain threshold of posts and time as a member without incident. It has the potential for somebody being an arbitrary homewrecker, but they would have to put in significant effort before they would have the opportunity. Also, the delay would lessen the load on the mods in approving them.

  3. I'm not sure if I'm just not finding it, but I think that the ability to edit bookmarks via the bookmark page (not the drop down, but the actual page) would be nice incase something happened to a story people have bookmarked.

I wanted to remove 'Adventure of a slave' from my list, but it seems to be deleted.

I think it would be very useful to have some sort of draft system for stories and threads. I just found this site very recently and was interested in messing around with the story creator to learn how it works. I assumed I could create a sort of test story (my fault for assuming, I know) that I would be able to save to the site but keep completely private so nobody else could see it. Turns out the private/public toggle referred to contributions, not privacy level. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after it auto-submitted for approval from a moderator. I deleted the few skeletons of threads I added to it, but there doesn't appear to be a way for me to delete the story entirely, removing it from my story manager and any mod's approval list.

This isn't really a help post, I think I did all I can on my end and left a message for any mods who might see it to delete it themselves on their end. Mostly, I'm surprised that this wasn't a feature already baked into the system. It seems like a basic feature to expect on my end, but I realize it must be much harder to implement, otherwise it would be there already. Again, I'm new to the site so I may just be missing something or am unaware of an easy workaround so any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. I did see the couple of posts early in this thread suggesting similar things, so I did see the suggestions other forum members made about just doing it all in Word first and transferring it over (which seems obvious, but probably the best option going forward) or leaving a note to the mods asking to hold off on approval until a later date (which seems awkward and probably would only make sense for established members with an existing relationship with the mods, not a newbie like me)

Only new stories must be approved by a moderator.
New threads must be approved by the story editor/owner. If you post to your own story, the thread is approved automatically.

I just use wordpad. It's smaller and does the work.
This also guarantees, that I always have a offline copy of my work.

In general drafts are nice. Like here in the forum. But somewhen I had a problem with it. I wrote an answer, but before sending it, I closed the browser. The half of my post was saved, but the other half was away (I think the session was expired, so it didn't saved anymore.)

Yeah, I really wouldn't trust my browser with keeping information. Even when using the Lazarus add-on for Firefox, which saves text fields, I sometimes lose information. A word processor like Wordpad is the way to go. Probably has consistent formatting, too, compared to more complicated or advanced programs. I'm getting off-topic here, but does Wordpad have any flowchart capabilities?

Oh, it shouldn't be the browser. The information should be send by AJAX to the server and stored there without reloading the site.
Just if the session is expired, the server wouldn't accept that requests anymore.

    I don't think so.
If a story branches out, i use letters at the end.

    Story-a branches in Story-aa and Story-ab
    Story-ab branches in Story-aba and Story-abb
    and so on

Maybe I'm just a control freak compared to most contributors here but I don't like how stories are automatically sent in for approval. Shouldn't I be able to save it, preview what I have done to make sure everything's working as it's supposed to format-wise (like I'm doing with this forum post), then send it in for approval when I feel comfortable with everyone else seeing it? And what if I wanted to make a private story all by myself and wanted everything complete with all of the threads I wanted uploaded and have it published all at once? It seems like the only way I could do that was to use a word processor and organize it all myself locally then go in and upload each part of it one by one instead of fleshing out the structure and modifying it within the site itself as I go along. It seems it would make it much easier to organize everything that way if we could upload stories with our own threads onto the site before submitting it for approval to publish to the public. Again, I could be alone here, worrying that I'll screw something up since I'm new to the system and find myself unable to fix it after it's been published, but thank you for taking my concern seriously.

Making posts/stories "invisible" would be a nice thing.

Heck, I'm very worried about starting a new story, the theme, the storyline, the Criticism that comes out of it, but I'm a coward in regards to that but I do hope jpf53 you can do that

"Sort by depth" - would be nice to use the median depth of all the paths, so that a well-balanced story wins out over one with just a few long linear paths.

Interestingly a median depth for all paths might favor stories with a few long linear paths which branch late.

It might be worth trying a few different metrics.

Maybe add total number of threads metric? Or amount of characters metric . It would be interesting to see how much text in the story.

Is there anyway you could change something so you can post pictures/gifs to the thread rather than links.

Yes, such a feature will come once the revised site is online.

    Administrative requests:

Could we not have stories show up to be approved or declined until they have at least one thread? I just went through over 20 stories with no threads that were clogging up the review queue. If they don't have a thread after a week, just auto decline them.

Also, could we have an option for the author to list a story as "in progress, not ready for posting"? We just had one story posted when the author wasn't ready for it to go up (http://chyoa.com/story/iunno/cover). A lot of stories in the queue have notes to not post yet; it would be a time saver and prevent errors if stories didn't appear to us admins until they were ready to go.

Ouch, I just got bitten with the "lose-thread-on-submit!" failure mode when my session expired. Another vote for figuring out a way to not do that.

I presume from the behavior that the session expiration must be fixed, since it was my second thread submitted in fairly quick sequence. How long do the sessions last?

Sorry to hear that! A session lasts normally 14 days. But I assume that this problem solves itself once Chyoa 2 goes live. I've been working on it for an extended period of time, and I expect a first preview in a few weeks.

@Murakami: With Chyoa 2 also comes the draft status.

    2 should also be:
The story is okay, but the grammar/spelling needs serious work.
