Trophies could help a little It's the duty of the author to not give you that feeling. I thought the same some time ago. But after a while, I got used to it.
Originally, my thought was: Oh boy, another reason to show little-to-no change in the "Notable Writers" designation. And as I wrote a post to highlight this in a less sarcastic manner, a possibility came to me: break up the awards. Rather than one designation highlighting based on number of awards and...however ties are resolved, we turn it into a page and divide up notability based on Likes Received, Favorites Received, Bookmarks Received, Followers, and Reviews Given. Besides the fact that we can highlight the disconnect between Likes and Favorites, we grant more numerous, more achievable ways for users to gain publicity, creating a more competitive environment as they fight for those limited spots. The problem then becomes weeding out empty praise, but this is resolved by giving users the ability to vote on the meaningfulness of each comment. Only comments voted as "useful" contribute to the tally, but a single review with 27 positive votes contributes only a single review to the tally - this creates the need for bulk. Since forum comments are mapped - and I believe we should keep this on the forum since there's a fair number of users on the main site that never see the forums, making this a great way to increase forum activity - we can go over the reviews themselves if it appears someone catapulted themselves up the list rapidly. If we do this all on the main site as opposed to the forums, then we start mapping comments there as well for this reason. On top of that, people choosing when to review do so based on when they believe a story is far enough along to review, and do so based on their convenience as opposed to their obligation, maintaining the current feel of CHYOA while still shaking things up. Probably needs some hammering out, but that's the basic premise. Thoughts?
It SOUNDS like a good idea, but I'm having trouble making enough sense of it to decide if it would work in practice...
