So, I downloaded "Spore" a few months ago, and I've been playing it off and on. This got me to wondering: how do people feel about me running a Spore Based Game? I would be a little different, for one thing, you would be a cooperative group of organisms, not just one, and for another, you would have a few more options about how you dealt with things, rather than Spore's fight/social dichotomy, but it's basically the same premise... Any takers?
Not especially. I was picturing a very rules-lite narrative based game, with the players describing what they do and any changes made to the creature then I try to build it in Spore and submit pictures for review...
And if we only have one player, so be it, that would just make it MORE like the base game: there would still be multiple opportune moments to insert new organisms into the ecosystem: or even entire races...
And anyone else who might be wondering where the conflict will come in if all the players are cooperating: (because all good stories are built around conflict,) I have several ideas for villains that will oppose your creatures, everything from tide pool predators, on up to interstellar empires... (The hardest stage for me to run will be the Tribal stage, I've never managed to complete that: So IDK how some of it works*. I can tell you one thing though, I'll try to do a better job than the game designers with the description and variety† of the gear in the Tribal stage...) *(And to anyone who is wondering, I managed to do just enough in the Tribe stage to be allowed to skip to the Civilization stage and kicked that one's ass, [It was, in fact, almost laughably easy: 'Star Craft' this ain't...], So I know about the Space stage and will easily be able to adapt to it's requirements.) †(In a related note, don't limit yourselves to one pair of hands and arms when doing the final evolution of the Creature stage: creatures with multiple arms will have a distinct advantage when going tribal... As will those with multiple legs...)
