Vladimir hid a disapproving look towards the recruit, Lokan had the situation in hand. Eventually the neophytes would have fear, trepidation, and uncertainty conditioned out of them. It might take a few decades but it would be done. They would instill fear, not feel it themselves.
The legate and his commander took up sides opposite each other. The duel started cordially enough but quickly devolved into an all out brawl with neither man giving ground. The strikes were intense and frantic; when two warriors of the caliber of Noapte and Shryke fought it was not a dance. These were not instructing moves, a fight like this was to show the recruits what actual battle was like. No punches were pulled, no quarter given both parties fought to their best, and when it was over, both men were bloodied and breathing heavily.
One of Vladimir's eyes was swollen shut when he got to his feet. "Well fought Commander." he congratulated the other man before he turned to the neophytes, "Learn from this example. A real battle is no choreographed waltz; it is savage and brutal. You must be the same. Your enemy will grant you no quarter or respite so provide them none."
Satisfied his task was done, Vladimir settled into his routine until the fleet reached Lars III.
