Sitting in the elaborate diplomatic quarters assigned to him, Arkhis reads some reports from a dataslate as he gets accustomed to his new surroundings.
It had been a strange few weeks since his arrival on the planet. Constantinopolis Secundus' massive semi-ecumenopolis is home to people from a thousand races, Arkhis' included, but the palace complex itself is filled also exclusively with humans. As a result, the newly minted diplomat has been the target of many looks from the thousands of servants, nobles, guards and bureaucrats who make the immense palace their home. Mostly, the looks have been neutral, merely surprise that a non-human would be in an area where they're rare, but some of the looks have been of undisguised disdain and xenophobia. On the other hand, Arkhis notes, to some of the less xenophobic denizens of the palace, Arkhis has been rather popular, his reptilian nature considered 'exotic'.
For all the vaunted prestige of his new position as diplomat between the Federation and their Terran overlords, Arkhis hasn't actually been able to do much work these last few weeks. He's not met the emperor once, nor been engaged about matters of state. As he begins to wonder if he'll ever be called on to do something besides sit in his fancy room, Arkhis hears a knock at the door. Answering it, it slides open to reveal the maid assigned to his needs.
"Mr Amandeus." She bows. "The emperor has requested your presence."
